Alto Meyer Hard Rubber BB Screws Brilhart Reproduction 3-Band Ligature Saxophone Selmer Vandoren
$ 165For hard rubber alto saxophone mouthpieces like Meyer Bros, GS New York, Selmer Soloist, Vandoren Jumbo Java and all Brilharts. This ligature is a true reproduction of the Brilhart 3-Band Ligature: from the alloy of brass to the feel of the screws, it is exactly the same as the vintage Brilhart ligature. Same dimensions, same weight, same feel, same playing response. It’s like going back in time to buy one when they were first made! So for those of you who have always wanted this time-tested style of ligature, but have found them prohibitively expensive, now perhaps getting one is within reach.

Alto Meyer Hard Rubber Brilhart Reproduction 3-Band Ligature Saxophone Selmer Vandoren
$ 165This ligature fits almost all hard rubber alto saxophone mouthpieces, like Meyer Bros, GS New York, Selmer Soloist, Vandoren Jumbo Java, all brands of Meyer copies, Ted Klum Acoustimax and New York model, all Brilharts etc. There’s a reason why the vintage Brilhart 3-Band ligatures have been singled out by the market (players) as by far the most desirable vintage ligatures. They are great ligatures. But there will never be enough vintage Brilhart ligatures to meet the high demand for this style of ligature. Thankfully, there is now a high-quality, hand made reproduction available to meet this demand. These are made by a small company in South Korea that cares about getting saxophone equipment right. These ligatures get rave reviews by the people who buy them. I don’t want to make huge claims for a ligature, but I will say that people tend to LOVE them. They’re beautiful, simple, and easy to use, and they sound great.

Alto Beechler Bellite Metal Brilhart Reproduction 3-Band Ligature Echo Master
$ 165This ligature fits thin metal alto saxophone mouthpieces like Beechler Bellite and other very slim body metal alto mouthpieces, like Brilhart levelaire, and some modern pieces like Guardala handmade. That’s ALL that this ligature fits. This is a listing for the ligature only, not a mouthpiece.
For Dukoff Miami alto, please buy the ‘soprano’ ligature here, because the soprano ligature fits Miami Dukoff metal alto mouthpieces *perfectly*. The soprano ligature also fits metal Otto Link alto mouthpieces very nicely.

Beechler Bellite 1980’s Table 7 Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece Gerald Albright MPC609
$ 1,150This is one of the most desirable smooth jazz alto mouthpieces ever. A few years ago, these were almost double the asking price, as odd as that may seem. Gerald Albright, Eric Marienthal, and Dave Koz made these desirable. I sell the Echomaster ligature to fit them as well. The best ones are the early ones like this, and they were never made in large quantities in the 80’s and early 90’s. The modern ones are terrible in comparison. If you want to have that crisp, bright, projecting smooth jazz alto sound that really lives in a reverb-heavy natural habitat, this is for you. It has straight sidewalls, small chamber, long gradual rollover baffle, tip opening measures 0.092″.

It’s original facing, and has been played a lot, because it’s a phenomenal player.

$ 350Straight sidewalls, moderate baffle by modern standards, small bullet chamber, masterfully refaced retaining the original 0.100″ tip opening by Brian Powell. This piece is moderately bright and has great projection and low resistance, but in an effortless way that makes it much easier to play than a modern high baffle piece. It’s not a paint peeler but stays warm with plenty of projection. Great piece!

Brilhart ARB Great Neck Original 3* (.081 modern 5) “Hard Rubber” Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC591
$ 275Rare hard rubber ARB example. These are usually plastic. This is Brilhart after Arnold Brilhart sold his name as a brand and switched to ARB. Slightly curved sidewalls, medium chamber, not much baffle. High resistance but not in a bad way, moderate tone not too dark and not too bright. This would make a good classic big band mouthpiece. Tip opening measures 0.081″.

Brilhart Designed by Arnold Brilhart Great Neck Ebolin 4* Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC592
$ 475Hard to find, early example of a Brilhart. This would be one of his first pieces, before the Ebolin name, when they just said ‘Designed by’ and had the Great Neck NY stamp on the shank. If you like Brilharts, you may want to add this to your collection. It’s a rarity in great shape. Straight sidewalls, medium tall-narrow chamber, subtle rollover baffle. This piece plays great with medium-low resistance and very flexible tone, reminiscent of a good Otto Link but a little warmer. Tip opening measures 0.086″, but plays a bit bigger.

Brilhart designed by metal 6* Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece F58
$ 150Guardala Studio like mouthpiece for 90+% less. Haha. Straight sidewalls, medium chamber after a high stepped baffle. Tip opening measures 0.096″. Not as bright as a modern high stepped baffle, more similar to Berg Larsen in that it has good projection while maintaining a dark lush tone. The unusual beak shape takes some getting used to, but it is interesting. The thick tip and low angle make the bite plate almost parallel to the reed.

Brilhart Early “Designed By” Tonalin and BB ligature and cap – fantastic! Use with alto? MPC612
$ 1,350So of the two parts of this sale, the ligature is actually worth more than the mouthpiece, and if they don’t sell together quickly, I’ll split them up. The ligature that comes with the streamline tenor is the desirable version that fits hard rubber ALTO mouthpieces (The streamline idea is that your tenor mouthpiece is the size of a normal alto mouthpiece.) So you get a ligature and cap that typically sells for the entire asking price not including the tenor mouthpiece that is also rare, collectible, and interesting in its own right. The mouthpiece is a rare, early Brilhart ‘Designed By’ Tonalin tenor mouthpiece with original facing measuring .083, or about a 5* tip. It is in excellent condition and plays well with a harder reed with a warm, complex tone. Lots of great players played mouthpieces like this, including Gene Ammons and Tex Benake. I love the Tonalin and may eventually do a GS Mouthpieces copy of my favorite one.

Brilhart Hard Rubber 7* Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece EG Reface Excellent MPC560
$ 750This Hard Rubber Brilhart is a lovely (and highly-coveted) vintage jazz mouthpiece that has a lot more in common with a Link Slant signature Tone Edge or Dukoff Supersonic than with other Brilharts. One of the best vintage tenor mouthpieces ever, bar none. This particular one comes from a small collection of the best vintage Brilharts amassed by a friend of Arnold Brilhart who has now retired from playing tenor. It has scooped sidewalls and large round chamber, rollover baffle, and the tip has just been opened to 0.105″ by Erik Greiffenhagen. The facing is perfect, and responds effortlessly in all registers, with a balanced, comfortable feel. Erik is widely-recognized as one of the best mouthpiece refacers around today. He uses the best authentic vintage curves for his facings, so this piece is just like it would have been if it were originally opened to a 7*. (All mouthpieces started at 0.0″ tip.) This is truly ‘one of the good ones’ and it’s priced very reasonably for all that.

Brilhart Streamline 5 Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC400
$ 350This mouthpiece is SOLD, but to find mouthpieces in stock, please go to the following link: https://www.getasax.com/
mouthpieces/ Beautiful almost new example of a rare Streamline Brilhart Ebolin alto mouthpiece. Stamped 3*, it measures like a Meyer 5 tip at .074″ on the original facing. This is often the case with Brilharts, where you only know the tip by measuring.
This mouthpiece plays great with a beautiful warmth and fullness that also does not lack projection. Brilharts like this are among my favorite vintage alto mouthpieces (along with Meyer and MC Gregory).
If you happen to want the rare and collectible original Brilhart BB screws streamline alto ligature and cap, I have one in my collection that fits this mouthpiece that I would be open to selling.

Brilhart Tonalin 3* (Modern 4) in box Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC614
$ 375Here’s a beautiful example of an original facing Brilhart Tonalin alto saxophone mouthpiece in excellent condition. The tonalin is warm and full sounding, with less buzz than a Meyer and more of a classic big band tone. It features straight sidewalls, narrow-tall chamber, very slight rollover baffle. Tip opening measures 0.068″, so about the same as a Meyer 4 tip. It could easily be opened to a 5+ if you so choose. This piece has nice moderate resistance and is less bright than some other Brilharts.

Tip opening measures 0.106″.

Brilhart Vintage Alto Ligature and Cap for Hard Rubber Alto Mouthpieces: Selmer, Meyer etc. MPC 610
$ 850I guess Kenny Garrett has made these popular more than anyone else. These vintage Brilhart 3 band alto saxophone ligatures are by far the most desirable vintage ligatures. Buescher True Tone Alto Saxophone 200008 Original Silver Plate Good Condition
The Buescher True Tone alto saxophones are excellent instruments for a wide range of playing. They have great intonation, and a beautiful, warm, round tone that works great for classical alto or concert band, or any setting where you want to have a big, beautiful, ‘sweet’ alto saxophone sound. This example comes from a collector who sold it to me together with a few other choice True Tones. It has old pads, so it needs an overhaul. As such, I have it priced really low for what you get. This horn should be amazingly beautiful when polished up and repadded, and it will be a reliably great player for many many more years to come. I love the rose gold wash inside the bell, and the original silver plate is also in quite good condition. This is a great serial range for a true tone. Many of my favorite playing Bueschers have been around 180-220k serial.

Or you could completely overhaul it, but I don’t know whether you’d really need to on this one.

Buffet Crampon G7* Clarinet Mouthpiece MPC531
$ 50This is a nice old hard rubber clarinet mouthpiece measuring .050″ (1.27 mm). From the stamping of the facing on the table, I’m thinking this was made by Woodwind Company of NY for Buffet, as a jazz-leaning clarinet piece. That’s just a guess. I’m not an expert on clarinet mouthpieces. Let me know if you know more about it. It plays well with a warm, rich tone and plenty of power.

Buffet S1 Alto Saxophone Excellent 23821
$ 2,100This is a nice original lacquer Buffet S1 alto in very good physical condition. The pads are older, but it hasn’t been played a ton so you could probably get it into pretty good playing condition without overhauling it. I overhaul horns by default, so I would say tune it up and play it for a while while you save up for an overhaul, and then you can get the total experience of a horn that feels almost new. This has the full S1 keywork with the excellent low C Eb mechanism and the very comfortable LH pinky keys as well. The intonation is great. The tone is big and wide and operatic – French, refined, not too bright, not too dark. I really like these. Original case and case cover are still in great shape as well. The only real lacquer wear is on the back of the bow, which I think is from the sax being played mostly seated in a chair where the lacquer must have touched the chair in that spot only. Sometimes I get horns in that have individual finger marks in certain places in the lacquer from always being picked up the same way. Anyway, I don’t see any evidence of significant damage or significant past repairs either. It’s a nice, clean example priced low enough to be a great deal even after you spend some money on pads.

Buffet Super Dynaction Alto 16883 Original Lacquer Good Condition Old Pads
$ 1,250Buffet Super Dynaction alto saxophone with original lacquer. This alto came from a collector who favored Buffet saxophones, and it is priced to sell, in good condition. It has had some dings removed, and the pads are old, but you’ll get an excellent pro alto for a bargain price if you get this and get it overhauled. It has the ‘sparkle’ lacquer that the earlier serial Buffet Super Dynaction saxophones have. The earlier ones like this also play darker, and look great too. The original case comes with it. They’re one of the few saxophones along with the Mark VI and the Couf Superba 1 that have a complex, interesting, vintage tone, but keywork that feels more or less modern under the fingers. Intonation is also typically quite good, as you might expect from Buffet Crampon Paris.
-
Buffet Super Dynaction Alto Original ‘Sparkle’ Lacquer Overhauled 13945
$ 2,950Completely overhauled original ‘sparkle’ lacquer Buffet Super Dynaction alto that also comes in a desirable vintage case that is among the nicest vintage cases ever. The overhaul on this horn is quite nice, and it feels great under the fingers. The original lacquer is nearly all intact. The tone is big, wide, medium between bright and dark and ‘operatic’ with a ton of power. The intonation is excellent as well. If you want to get a Buffet Super Dynaction that is as nice as they come, this is the one to get. They are still priced amazingly affordably. Try buying one this nice and getting it overhauled well for less money, and it will be very hard to do.

Conn 6M Transitional Alto Saxophone Original Lacquer New York Neck! 275123
$ 2,450This is a beautiful original lacquer pre-war Conn 6M Alto saxophone in excellent condition with the rare and desirable ‘NY’ Neck. I’m not sure why it is called that, but this means the neck without microtuner and with the octave key going over the top and around the tenon in a large loop. This is only the second one I have seen that still had its ‘sombrero’ shaped neck octave key protecting tool in the case. This goes in the neck tenon to keep the loop of the octave key in perfect shape. This 6M has original pads from 1938 and needs an overhaul, but it is priced very low for what you get. These are among the best playing alto saxophones of all time. I play a Conn very much like this myself, and it blows the walls down while also tuning better than almost any other saxophone at the same time. It’s fantastic.

Conn New Wonder 1 Alto Burnished Gold Stunning Portrait Engraved Old Pads 139214
$ 1,500Gorgeous original gold plated Conn New Wonder 1 alto with portrait and everything. This alto is made of brass, but it has as thick layer of gold plate over a layer of silver plate over the brass. Conn gave lots of special attention and time to these portrait engraved ‘burnished’ gold examples, and this is a beautiful one that made it through its first 100 years to still be in excellent condition today. These are extremely fun altos to play, with a big, wide, velvety, room-filling tone that is full of warmth and sweetness. If you want an alto that is really lyrical and pleasant to listen to, the New Wonder 1 and 2 are probably at the top of the list. What you sacrifice is modern keywork – this has 1920’s ergonomics, so don’t expect to burn it up on this. The intonation is good but flexible. You can bend notes around, so if you’re a ‘biter’ with way too tight of an embouchure, you will have more trouble than if you play with a relaxed or fairly even embouchure. This one has old pads and needs a repad, but hey- it’s gorgeous, in good condition, and burnished gold with extra engraving, so you’re getting a great deal on a work of art that is also very usable as a modern instrument today.

Conn New Wonder II Transitional Alto Saxophone Original Silver Old Pads 237954
$ 800This late Conn New Wonder II alto sax is in very good original condition, and just needs a quality overhaul to be an excellent player. It’s original silver plate, and it will shine up and look amazing with a cleaning and polishing job put into it. These late New Wonder II’s start to be called transitional when they get their first 6M-anticipating feature: the raised side E key touch. Besides that, this is pretty much a New Wonder II, though Conn also starts to experiment with the neck around this serial, to improve intonation and give slightly more focus to the sound (still very wide and spread). When overhauled nicely, these altos are unmatched for the amount that they feel alive in your hands. They vibrate and respond so amazingly well. I never want to put the horn down!

Conn Transitional NWII / 10M Tenor 1930 New Keywork 243217 Fresh Overhaul!
$ 6,250Unlacquered 1930 Conn transitional tenor which has had modern keywork painstakingly fit to the old body tube. This is my favorite vintage of Conn for tone. If you’ve ever wanted a Conn tone without sacrificing key feel to play the 30’s keywork, this is one of those rare chances to do it. The horn is also gorgeous. I like that they picked a really clean, beautiful example to use as the shell for the overhaul.
Keywork was fitted by a shop in Canada, and then the horn was thoroughly setup (basically overhauled ~$1650) and perfected by Aaron Barnard in Iowa. It plays GREAT!

Dukoff Hollywood Metal Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece 7* Refaced from 5* Great! MPC610
$ 1,450This is a beautiful vintage Dukoff Hollywood from my personal collection. It’s fat and powerful, but on the darker side, with a mild rollover baffle and medium-large chamber. This is the one piece version with higher floor but less rollover baffle. It plays great, with more projection than average since it was opened up. This was originally a 5* and was opened to a 7*, measuring .105″. I’m not sure who did the work, as it is unsigned, but from how clean and tidy it is, I’m guessing either Theo or maybe Jon Van Wie, both of whom didn’t always sign their pieces back in the day. That tip and baffle work is top-notch. This is a world-class tenor piece that should make someone very happy.

Dukoff Miami Super Power Chamber D5* plastic Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC575
$ 350Small chamber, straight sidewalls, stepped baffle. This piece is easier to play sweetly at low volume than the typical metal body and larger tip openings found in this chamber and baffle configuration, but can still scream at higher volumes. A nice flexible piece for R&B or smooth playing. Tip opening measures 0.067″.

Dukoff Miami Super Power Chamber M7 metal Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC589
$ 500Straight sidewalls, medium chamber, and a unique baffle that is similar to a high stepped baffle but with a large rollover-like radius where the step would be. Tonally this retains the projection and attack of a high baffle but is maybe slightly darker than a super-bright SPC “D” chamber. Tip opening measures 0.105″.

Dukoff Miami Super Power Chamber M7 Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC594
$ 400Straight sidewalls, medium chamber, and a high baffle with a large radius rollover at the entrance to the chamber. You don’t see the Miami M chamber that often. Those ligature scratches could be buffed off if you want. This is a very free-blowing piece with great projection. It is bright, but not paint peeling bright like the more common D7 chamber. I would consider this if you like your Link STM but want something that cuts through an amplified mix a little easier. Tip opening measures a comfortable 0.103″.

GS Mark II Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece – Modern, Crisp, Effortless
$ 199GS Mark II Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece Freddie Gregory Super Deluxe Mark II Copy
This piece is clean, balanced, effortless to play, including low register and altissimo, with a medium chamber and a moderate baffle that gives it moderate brightness without getting brittle or nasal. It’s a great all-purpose tenor mouthpiece with a modern sound.
*Demo videos and detailed info below with the GS Mark II on a Selmer Mark VI, Conn 30M, and King Super 20.
The GS Mark II tenor saxophone mouthpiece is an extremely precise copy of my favorite Freddie Gregory Super Deluxe Mark II tenor mouthpiece.
What is this?
Many players may not know much about Freddie Gregory’s Super Deluxe mouthpieces. That’s not a big surprise, as Freddie did not make that many of them, and the ones he did make are mostly still in the hands of their original owners. The few that have come up for sale over the last 5 years that I’ve seen have been priced way out of the reach of most players– typically $2400-$4000– for a mouthpiece! Which is nuts, but those who know these mouthpieces REALLY seem to be willing to pay to get one. And sadly, since Freddie died ten years ago, no more of these are available.
The Super Deluxe model was entirely designed and made by Freddie. It was sold in four variations on the same design: Mark I, Mark II, Mark III, and Mark IV. They all have a good amount of projection, but the Mark I is darkest and the Mark IV is brightest.
The Mark II is bright and projecting but not too bright, and it seems to be one of the most popular ones of these. The chamber is medium rather than large, which adds to the projection. The shank is long, so you can pull out on vintage horns. The Mark II sounds great on Selmers and on modern tenors like Yamaha and P Mauriat. It gives them a lot of extra character and complexity.
The Mark II is nothing like an Otto Link, so if you’re wanting a Link-on-steriods or whatever, checkout the upcoming GS SUPERSONIC, which does just that sort of thing. The Mark II is a different beast, all its own thing.
And for only $199 including hand facing, I hope that lots of players can enjoy this amazing and rare mouthpiece! It’s hard to beat.
