Selmer Mark VI Alto 1962 Original Silver Great Pads High F# Clean! 102960
This is a gorgeous example of a 1962 Selmer Mark VI Alto saxophone in original silver plate finish with high F#. It is sold in excellent playing condition with good pads and a ‘low miles’ overhaul. It includes the pictured BAM case as well, to keep it safe in shipping, as well as the original case with red crushed velvet interior. It’s hard to beat the early 60’s Mark VI altos for tone.

Selmer Mark VI Alto 1964 Near Mint Original Lacquer Original Pads 116897
$ 7,950This is a REALLY clean original lacquer, original pads Selmer Mark VI alto from 1964. Matt Stohrer uses this horn on is Stohrer Music channel to go over what an original Selmer Mark VI factory pad job and setup looks like. It’s that clean. It had one ding removed from the back of the bow, and there are no dents or dings now, and no past repairs. The neck has matching serial number and is also in excellent condition. This horn sat in the case for almost its entire life so far, as it was owned by a clarinet player who only used it occasionally. It still plays pretty well on the original pads. It has a dark, focused, powerful, tenor-like tone that only the ’63-’64 altos have, and that many Selmer aficionados have also noted about these horns. It has some interesting coloration in the lacquer just from sitting against the case and the lacquer aging differently depending upon which parts made contact with the case and which did not. If you want a time capsule Selmer Mark VI alto from one of my favorite years, that’s what this is. Only one available!

Selmer Mark VI Alto 1965 Near Mint Original Pads 127335

Selmer Mark VI Alto 1965 Original Lacquer Very Good Condition 129247
$ 7,750Beautiful condition 1965 Selmer Mark VI Alto saxophone with original lacquer and American engraving. The neck has the matching serial number to the body. It has some stand scratches on the bell, and some miscellaneous wear from use, but it is as nice as can be. The pads are in gret condition! This was a one owner horn that was well cared for its entire life. Now it’s ready for a new owner to take care of it for its next 60 years.
The tone is dark, powerful, and focused with lots of projection. I like the mid 60’s VI altos the best for tone out of all of the VI altos.

Selmer Mark VI Alto 1974 Original Lacquer American Engraved Very Good Condition 234127
$ 4,950Beautiful original lacquer Selmer Mark VI Alto in very good condition. This alto also still plays quite well on its mostly original factory pad setup. It has a resoldered keyguard foot on low C on one side, and that’s the only repair. The neck is in great shape, and I don’t see any damage anywhere. Plan on a repad soon, but you’re looking at a beautiful original VI alto for Yamaha type of money. That’s a great deal!

Selmer Mark VI Alto 1974 Original Lacquer Good Pads 227643
$ 4,950Original lacquer Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone with original lacquer, American engraving and good pads for only $4950. The later serial Mark VI altos like this have excellent intonation, excellent balanced medium-bright tone, and are extremely well built. This alto has nothing wrong with it, plays great, and will go up in value while you own it, but it’s about the same price as a Yamaha or something. That’s nuts! You should definitely buy it if you can swing the price. There’s nothing like a Mark VI – it has the best combination of keywork, ergonomics, build quality, and tone of any saxophone, which is why it still sets the standard for professional saxophones 50 years after Selmer stopped making them! This one also has a roomy case with plenty of storage.

Selmer Mark VI Alto 1974 Original Lacquer Original Pads Very Good Condition 221505
$ 5,350On consignment, this is a beautiful Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone with original lacquer and American engraving. For a fraction of the price of a new Selmer, you can get a Mark VI in great shape. This alto has original pads, so plan on a repad soon, but it won’t be a difficult job. Mark VI’s are easy to work on, and this one is in great mechanical condition and should be a straightforward job. Later serial VI altos are beloved for their excellent intonation and superior low register response. I like the tone on them as well. They’re probably the best value overall in a Selmer saxophone, because they have improvements over the earlier VI altos, yet they are priced much lower. Only one available!

Selmer Mark VI Sopranino 5-digit RARE Original Lacquer Excellent! 98569
$ 8,250This is an incredibly rare 5-digit Selmer Mark VI Sopranino saxophone. Serial 98569, close to Coltrane’s famous VI soprano. Original lacquer at about 98% intact; extremely clean condition with no damage and no past repairs. Original case is great as well. I may have this significantly underpriced. A 5-digit Mark VI soprano of this serial would sell much higher. In any case, it’s the ultimate sopranino saxophone. This is the only 5-digit sopranino I’ve had in the history of GetASax, so there is most certainly only one available!

Selmer Mark VI Soprano Original Lacquer Excellent Condition! 210073
$ 4,950Gorgeous original lacquer Selmer Mark VI soprano. The later serials like this tune the best of all the VI sopranos, and sound great. Both Coltrane and Kenny G play(ed) a VI soprano, so that should give you some idea of the range of tone possible on one of these. This one is about as clean and nice an example as you could find. The pads are original, and still sealing fairly well, but plan on a repad soon. Priced to be a great deal for someone.

Selmer Mark VI Tenor 1955 Original Lacquer Plays Well 59259
$ 15,500This VI tenor is dark, rich, powerful, and focused. It’s one of the VI tenors that accounts for the reputation of the Selmer Mark VI Tenor being what it is today. This horn has had its share of dents removed from the back of the body tube along the area of the thumb hook. The work was done nicely though, and there’s not sign of dents now. This horn was owned by the same person for a very long time – pro player, who took great care of it and played it his whole life. It’s not the sort of horn that you sell. The pads are a mix of older and newer and have just been tuned up. It plays well, but you’re going to be doing some tune ups on it down the road as some of the pads are pretty old. Still, you can play it now like this and it sounds great and responds well. 1955 is an excellent year for a VI both as a player and as an investment. Only one available!

Selmer Mark VI Tenor 1972 Recent Full Overhaul Replacement Neck 201149
$ 5,000This Selmer Mark VI Tenor was overhauled by Matt Stohrer a few years ago for a player who then was unable to play it for medical reasons, and is still basically a completely fresh overhaul. The horn feels great under the fingers! It plays almost like a new horn. The only odd thing about it is the neck. The tube doesn’t look like Selmer to me, though the octave key is. So it’s priced quite low as a result. You could always get a VI neck for it to match up if you prefer, though it plays great on the existing neck, whatever it is.

Selmer Mark VI Tenor 1973 Original Lacquer Fresh Overhaul High F# 218292
$ 5,750This is a beautiful, original lacquer Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone from 1973. It is euro lacquered and engraved, and it has the optional high F# key. This Mark VI Tenor also got a fresh overhaul shortly before it was consigned with GetASax. The overhaul was done with black kangaroo leather pads and waffle shaped ‘noyek’ or ‘hollywood’ resonators. The overhaul is good, with all pads checked and seated and sealing well. The neck fit is good, and response is easy. The tone is medium bright and fairly complex, with effortless low register and easy altissimo. You won’t need to do anything to this horn when you get it. Just pop on a mouthpiece and play. And if you’re used to having a high F#, this is an easy transition from a modern Yamaha or something, since it also has it. The keywork on a Selmer Mark VI feels modern, and is, of course, the keywork layout that all modern horns are based on. So it’s easy to play, tunes well, responds well, and is original lacquer and freshly overhauled. What’s not to like? The price is also quite attractive, so you can get an original, overhauled Mark VI for around the same price as a (less exciting) new Yamaha 82z, and for way less than a new Selmer Ref 36 or something. Plus, the Mark VI will hold its value well or appreciate while you own it, where a new horn would lose a lot of value as soon as it becomes used.
The case with this Selmer is not so great, so we can discuss swapping you into a BAM case of some kind, for better protection in shipping. I’m happy to hook you up with one of your choice at an excellent price, or I can ship this safely with this case using my special double-boxing setup. Either way you’ll be good. We should have a video with hifi sound clip of this tenor within a few days, so check back if you want to see Tyler play it before you pull the trigger.
Only one available! Audio is best on HD resolution in the video.

Selmer Mark VI Tenor Old Varitone Fully Engraved + AfterMarket Silver Plate Job Big Player 141570
$ 6,000This is a really powerful Mark VI tenor that was one-owner, and well played and loved its entire life so far. The original owner had the varitone pickup system removed from the bell, and he then had the horn fully engraved, neck to bell flare by Sherry Huntley, and then silver plated. It has the Selmer factory pickup port still present in the neck, which you could use for recording or to run through effects pedals if you want to, and it would work great. Or just ignore it and it plays like a regular Mark VI. The current pads are medium way through their usable life. This horn was frequently maintained by a local shop here, including just a few weeks ago, and they are still sealing well. If you want a powerful, medium bright Mark VI tenor that also turns heads with its silver plate finish and full engraving, and you want that all for a low price, since the silver is aftermarket, that’s what you’re getting. It’s a great value in a Mark VI, because this horn has always been well cared-for, and it had a ton of money put into it in the engraving (+$750 or more) plus the plating (+$2k at least).

Selmer Mark VI Tenor Original Lacquer Good Condition 227016
$ 5,350Great deal on an original lacquer Selmer Mark VI Tenor for the price of a new Yamaha or Taiwanese horn. How can you beat that? The later serial Mark VI tenors have a ton of power and a fat, complex, punchy tone that cuts through a band with ease. You get the Selmer Paris build quality, the Mark VI tone, the beauty of American-engraving, and generally a satisfying, quality tenor for really not that much money. The pads on this one are older, and it plays on them, but would do better with a repad pretty soon. It’s priced to be within reach of a player going for his or her tenor that can be kept and played as long as you want to keep it. It will only go up in value.
I have almost the identical serial VI for sale now but in near mint condition and completely overhauled, if you’re interested in that one as well.

Selmer Mark VI Tenor Original Lacquer Good Pads High F# Plays Great! 233842
$ 6,500Clean, beautiful, later serial Selmer Mark VI tenor with original lacquer and high F#. This is American-engraved and lacquered, and it was a one owner horn when I got it. The pads are in good shape, and it plays well on them for sure, with a warm, medium-bright, projecting tone that makes me want to play loudly. The sound clip shows the versatility, with a more mellow example of the instant and easy low register response and easy subtone to complete the package. If you want a Selmer Mark VI tenor that you can just buy and play, but that is still quite affordable as professional saxophones go, look no further! This is it.

Selmer NOS Scroll Shank Metal C* Soprano Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC621
$ 500Rare new old stock example of a Selmer Scroll Shank metal soprano saxophone mouthpiece like John Coltrane played on his Mark VI soprano. If you have a Selmer soprano, these Selmer pieces really improve the intonation, as they have a small chamber that is precisely designed to tune with the bore of a Mark VI. And as we all know, intonation is one of the main obstacles to good soprano playing. Plus the tone is nice and focused and reedy, a la Coltrane. Hard to beat if that’s the sound you want.

Selmer Radio Improved Alto Original Lacquer, Recent Overhaul 19276
$ 4,950If you read around on here a bit, you’ll see that I love Selmers from the 1930’s and the Radio Improved in particular. This one has most of its original lacquer intact, and is in quite good condition. it is also in great playing condition with a recent overhaul done by Jack Finucane (from a couple of years or so ago before he stopped doing overhauls), and feels nice and snappy under the fingers. The pads look a little funny in photos – that’s because of some powder from Yamaha powder paper that is on the leather. But the pads themselves are in excellent condition and are nearly new. The resonators look like a Reso-Tech set made to match the vintage Selmer Tonex resos, but slightly oversized, and very slightly domed. They are a good match for the horn, and they almost look like vintage Selmer resonators. It didn’t get played much after overhaul, as the owner is in a military band and plays a modern horn most of the time for work. It’s on consignment now, and I think it’ll likely sell quickly.
The tone of a Radio Improved alto is the reason to buy it. It’s like a Selmer blended with a Conn almost- delicate lyrical core that reminds me of an SBA, but with a wider, warmer, more spread feel like a Conn. The keywork is not modern. This is before the ‘Balanced Action’ keywork improvements, so you will have to get used to the left hand pinky keys if you haven’t played a vintage horn before. If you have, then it’s no problem. I barely notice keywork differences anymore after playing all the different styles out there. This one is more comfortable than most, and I like the direct action bell key mechanism.
The original lacquer is in beautiful shape and looks great – deep honey gold. The only spot that isn’t original lacquer (and you’d have to really look closely to tell this) is at the neck receiver, where it looks like Jack had to resolder the neck receiver and then mix up some matching lacquer to over spray there. The only way to tell is that there’s just a little sign of overspray of the new lacquer on top of the original lacquer just below the receiver. That resolder often needs to be done on a 30’s Selmer to make the neck receiver strong again after 80+ years of use. (It was done on my personal RI, so I specially look for it). These horns are very uncommon, and this one is nicer than the great majority of RI’s out there. Only 1140 RI altos were made, and this is probably in the top 10% of those.

Selmer Reference 36 Tenor Near Mint Amazing Plus Fresh Overhaul! 689809
$ 7,250If you’ve never played a properly overhauled Selmer Reference 36, then you really have probably never played one. They are fantastic instruments, once all the factory pad work is removed and replaced with a good high-end overhaul. We used Pisoni Italian leather pads and reusable slightly domed brass resonators, which is the best combination I know for these. Now this horn is just amazing and effortless to play. If you want a Selmer with some body, instant response, super easy low register, and modern keywork, this is it! Based on the Supreme altos I’ve gotten in, Selmer has done nothing to improve its factory setup, so the new Selmers still need a lot of work when you get them new. This is a chance to get a near mint example of a Ref 36 that has already had everything fixed permanently and that just plays how it should.

Selmer Reference 54 Alto Kookaburra Exc Cond Fresh Full Overhaul! 700124
$ 5,950This Selmer Reference 54 alto is completely overhauled, which sets it far apart from other used modern Selmers that you will find on the market. This is also the Kookaburra edition. I understand they made 340 of these for the US market. They do seem to sell a little higher than the average Reference 54. I love how these horns play once they get a good overhaul. The odd thing is, they can be in nearly new condition, as this one is, and yet still need an overhaul to play well. As you probably know, unless you’re just getting into nice saxophones, an overhaul is a big job, and means that everything is rebuilt and replaced that is disposable on the saxophone. It takes a few days worth of skilled labor and a few hundred dollars worth of materials, so it’s not cheap. The result is a saxophone that plays and feels better than new, as this one does. It’s a deal at this price. The Reference 54 is my favorite modern Selmer.
Original case is included, also in excellent condition.

Selmer S80 D facing Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC607
$ 100This piece has a smallish tip opening and a square chamber, giving it a narrow dynamic range and a stuffy, nasal tone. Some band directors require these mouthpieces, as do many saxophone teachers, so I always have tons of them around here. But if I had my way, they would all be incinerated. I mean this specifically about the tenor pieces – the altos and sopranos are nice for beginner players. If you are required to buy this piece by some ill-informed authority figure, then please do the following two things. First, buy a used one, rather than paying the ridiculously high new price that Selmer charges, and second, let me know, and I will help you to find another piece that will actually give your otherwise-nice-sounding tenor the kind of tone that it deserves to have. The only mouthpiece this is better than is the even smaller tip C* S80.

Selmer SBA Alto Original Lacquer Recent High End Overhaul Gorgeous 51347
$ 7,500Amazing original lacquer Selmer SBA alto with a recent high-end overhaul. It plays great! This is about as nice an example as you are likely to find. It has a medium dark, smoky tone that fills a room with ease. The core is lyrical and delicate, making this a great do-it-all alto for either classical or jazz. Just switch your mouthpiece out! The scale is nice and even. Intonation is quite good as well. No resolders, no dents, no dings. It’s one of the most beautiful ones around.
It comes with a nearly new BAM Classic alto case that fits it perfectly, and that is protective for shipping.

Selmer Scroll Shank D Vintage Metal Soprano Saxophone Mouthpiece Soloist MPC517
$ 400Made famous by John Coltrane, who played this mouthpiece on his classic soprano recordings like In a Sentimental Mood, and Favorite Things, the vintage Selmer Scroll Shank (Soloist) Soprano saxophone mouthpieces remain popular today. This is a beautiful example of a Scroll Shank D with a silver plate and its original facing. It also includes the original ligature and cap. It plays easily and has that reedy, focused, projecting, medium bright tone that you think of with those classic recordings. The chamber is round and not very large, much like the hard rubber version of the Soloist soprano pieces. The metal seems to give you just a bit more brightness. The tip on this one measures a comfortable .051″ making it easy to play with a medium reed strength.

Selmer Soloist C Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC505
$ 275This is a quintessential vintage Selmer Soloist with a classical-leaning tone. It has straight sidewalls, horseshoe chamber, subtle rollover baffle, and the tip opening measures 0.073″. It has a dark Selmer tone, with no edge at all despite mild rollover baffle. Round and warm and dark like a cello. If you want your Selmer to lean classical or wind band or small ensemble, this would be ideal. It also completes your set with a Selmer Mark VI tenor from the 1960’s.

Selmer Soloist Short Shank C** Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC597
$ 400This is a beautiful example of a 50’s Selmer Soloist ‘short shank’ tenor saxophone mouthpiece. This would have come with a late SBA or 50’s Selmer Mark VI tenor. It was designed as a dark, classical leaning mouthpiece, but sometimes people get these opened to larger tips to do the Joe Henderson sort of thing for jazz. The Soloist has straight sidewalls, a pretty small chamber, and a very slight rollover baffle. Dark mellow tone, high resistance piece, good for section work or maybe classical with a bit of an edge. Tip opening measures 0.075″.

Selmer Super Action 80 Series 1 Alto 343195 Very Good Condition Great Tone!
$ 3,450As you may know if you hang around this site, I like Selmer Super Action 80 series 1 altos a lot. They are better built and have a more interesting tone than Series IIs, and they also tune well with a Meyer style mouthpiece, unlike a typical Series II. This Series 1 is in very good condition with only some minor signs of use, and a mix of pads that are still sealing pretty well. It doesn’t have a complete overhaul, so plan on swapping out some pads little by little as you go. That let’s me price it lower so that you can get a Selmer Paris alto that is as good as one that costs 2-3x as much, and save the difference. We did a quick sound sample of this horn below, though you can sound a hundred different ways on it depending on your style, reed, and mouthpiece choice. It’s a great all-around alto because it just gets the job done. I love the focused, lyrical, medium-dark tone. It’s got some complexity to it, and lends itself both to a dark classical tone or to a bright mouthpiece pairing to get projection while staying fat sounding. Only one available!

Selmer Super Sax Cigar Cutter Alto Original Lacquer Fresh Overhaul Exceptional! 16757
$ 4,950Just overhauled. Photos are before the overhaul. It looks a bit nicer now, and plays ridiculously well. It’s like the warmth and lyrical core of a Selmer Balanced Action, but with the wideness and power of a Conn 6M added in. Keywork is the older style, of course, so you can’t be too fussy about that. We just did a GS NY demo video quick preview with this exact alto, so you can hear it in action on an extremely precise copy of my favorite Meyer Bros NY alto piece in this demo clip. You can tell Tyler is a tenor player from the way he really pushes the horn with tons of air, but it doesn’t back down!

Selmer Super Sax Cigar Cutter Alto Saxophone Original Gold Plate Fresh Overhaul! 17618
$ 7,500Is this the best playing alto on the website right now? It might be!
Original gold plated vintage Selmers are hard to find. Gold plated Super Sax Selmers are even harder! If you want a Selmer that has some of the the wideness and darker tone of a Conn, this is the horn for you! This beautiful example still has the ‘cigar cutting’ octave mechanism that goes away shortly after this serial number. The original gold is in great shape, with some wear from use. This horn just got a top quality overhaul done by J&H Winds in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Jimmy Jensen and Simon Harding’s shop there is doing a fantastic job on vintage saxophone restorations, and gets my full endorsement! This thing feels better than new under the fingers. It has Italian Pisoni pads that were specially ordered thicknesses to fit the deeper pad cups. And the resonators are Aaron Barnard’s reusable slightly domed brass ones that are my favorite on lots of types of vintage saxophone. This sax got the full treatment, and now it is SO fun to play. It is super alive – vibrates like crazy under the fingers. The intonation is quite good with my GS New York alto mouthpiece, so you are fine with either a large or a medium chamber on this alto. The tone is so velvety and rich – dark, smooth, complex, and WIDE. If you want to fill a room, this is the horn for you. The gold is also gorgeous. The only drawback is the ergonomics. It’s not modern. I actually like the direct action that closes the left hand bell keys– it’s nice and snappy and easy. The downside is just if you need to get around a lot of low notes really quickly, and you don’t have good pinky finger dexterity. To me the tone makes it totally worth it. And how many blazing passages in the extreme low register do you realistically play? Probably not that many. So this is the total package of rarity, beauty, top shelf overhaul, and tone.

Selmer Super Session D Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC602
$ 200Straight sidewalls, large round chamber, rollover baffle. Tip opening measures 0.77″. This is a nice all-around mouthpiece for classical, section blending, or the developing player. It has medium resistance and a medium-dark tone, but allows for some tonal flexibility. As you would expect from the bore shape, it has more in common tonally with a Link Tone Edge or a vintage Selmer Soloist than with an S80 C*, but still more well mannered, with a bit more resistance and less brightness.

Selmer Supreme Alto Dark Lacquer Like New Plus Thorough Setup
$ 7,850Selmer Supreme alto that is in like new condition, but I spent a lot of money on setup on it, fixing some not-so-well-done factory setup. It needed a BIG setup, to fix pad seating problems from the factory, and to clean up some messy corks, check some mechanical things, and add more adhesive behind many of the pads. Now, it’s good to go for the long-haul, and it plays extremely well! I’m amazed at the even scale – middle C to octave D is extremely even, for example. The intonation is excellent as well – much better than a Series II for me (using a Meyer style mouthpiece). You’ll love how it plays, but this is much better than buying a new one without any work done. This is the second Supreme I’ve had in brand new, and both of them needed quite a bit of work to play their best.

SML King Marigaux Soprano Saxophone Gold Medal 2 Excellent 25321
$ 2,250 -
SML King Marigaux Tenor Original Lacquer Very Good Condition 22245
$ 2,350This is an SML Gold Medal II Tenor, which is pretty much just a Gold Medal 1 with straight tone holes instead of rolled tone holes. This difference makes the price lower, but it also makes the horn easier to maintain, as more repair shops are comfortable seating pads on normal, straight tone holes, than on rolled ones. Anyway, most of these say King Marigaux on the bell (sold under the King name, but also with Marigaux (the M in SML) after the King for clarity. The tone is dark, full, and powerful, but with a more solid core to it than a Conn. SML was originally envisioned as a company offering a French saxophone that played as well as a Conn (as opposed to backward and behind-the-times Selmer). As such, you’ll hear a lot of Conn wideness and darkness to the tone. Yet SML has a sound and feel all its own. As a small company, it was keen on innovation, so the Rev D and Gold Medal 1-2 horns all have a host of design improvements that increase their playability. In particular, you’ll notice the neck tightening ring with four slits for even tightening. This is a great idea, and was recently copied on the Selmer Supreme saxophones. The springs are also very intelligently designed so that the key feel is snappy and even throughout. There are about a score of other improvements touted by SML that you can read about if you google it. This horn is in excellent condition, and just had a few small dings removed pre-sale. It still has its original pads, so nobody has ever messed with it, and it’s ready for its first complete pad job now. That’s how I like to buy saxophones myself. I may get it overhauled here if it is here long enough. These horns are SO fun to play. I have one similar to this in my personal collection, and it blows people away when they try it. They’re all very good. It’s just a matter of getting one that is in excellent condition to start with, and then doing a smart overhaul on it. I recommend Pisoni Italian leather pads and flat or slightly domed medium sized metal resonators. That works great on these. It’s priced to sell. You won’t believe what a great pro tenor you get for less than a nicer Taiwanese horn or Yamaha now costs. And you also sound different from everybody else. Lush and fat like Dexter Gordon, but with more modern keywork than a Conn.

Steve Broadus New York Perfected Model S3 Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece MPC599
$ 150Steve Broadus mouthpieces are high quality and under-appreciated today, mainly because they didn’t do enough marketing in the mid-20th-century, and because they mostly made smaller tip openings. This is well made though and has high-quality materials and design. It should probably be refaced unless you like very small tip openings. It has curved sidewalls, large chamber like a Link Reso Chamber, mild rollover baffle. Tip opening measures 0.058″. With a normal reed, this is thin and pinches off due to the very small tip opening, but with a harder reed, it has nice resistance and a lush dark tone, but still not a whole lot of projection. An interesting piece for west coast style combo work or a starting point for a modern reface.

Tenor Hard Rubber BB Screws Brilhart Reproduction 3-Band Ligature Saxophone Mouthpieces Otto Link Slant Selmer Soloist
$ 165For hard rubber tenor saxophone mouthpieces like Otto Link Tone Edge, Otto Link Reso Chamber. All Link Slant tenor copies and reproductions, and almost all modern hard rubber tenor mouthpieces will fit great with this ligature. It has long screws to fit a slim hard modern Vandoren or Selmer Soloist, all the way up to large body vintage tenor piece like a Conn Steelay, or the larger NY Meyers, Woodwind Co NY, or Hard Rubber Brilharts. The all-metal design is more labor intensive to build, with a lot of careful silver soldering going into the production. The brass is high quality and supple. The BB screws tighten easily.
**Out of the box, the ligature is adjusted to fit a larger body mouthpiece like an Otto Link Tone Edge. For a slimmer mouthpiece, simply put the ligature on your mouthpiece, tighten the screws, and then press hard to bend the reed plate a little closer to the table.
This ligature is a true reproduction of the Brilhart 3-Band Ligature: from the alloy of brass to the feel of the screws, it is exactly the same as the vintage Brilhart ligature. Same dimensions, same weight, same feel, same playing response. It’s like going back in time to buy one when they were first made! So for those of you who have always wanted this time-tested style of ligature, but have found them prohibitively expensive, now perhaps getting one is within reach.

Tenor Hard Rubber Brilhart 3-Band Reproduction Ligature Echo Brass
$ 165There’s a reason why the vintage Brilhart 3-Band ligatures have been singled out by the market (players) as by far the most desirable vintage ligatures. They are great ligatures. But there will never be enough vintage Brilhart ligatures to meet the high demand for this style of ligature.

Theo Wanne MOKSHA Alto Rare and Super Deluxe Mantra – Fully Engraved 20003
$ 3,500Theo Wanne Moksha alto made mostly of titanium! This was an exciting new model that Theo Wanne wanted to make, but it was too expensive to make. The matching alto and tenor final prototypes were sold by Theo, and they’re on consignment here for the original owner. These have brass keys, titanium bell and body tube, and lots of engraving. They also have ‘tone bridges’ that you can install or leave off as you like, that give an extra connection between neck and body tube, tube and bow etc.

Vandoren Blue Jumbo Java EG Reface A45 Alto .085″ MPC561
$ 650Slightly scooped sidewalls, high stepped baffle, but a medium-large chamber when it opens up. This started as an A75, but I had Erik Greiffenhagen reface it to a 0.085″ tip opening. A modern bright edgy tone with great projection and lightning response.

Woodwind Co K4* (Actually 7) .100″ EG Reface Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece Great! MPC952
$ 225This is like a vintage Reso Chamber or Slant (more like a Slant) also made of the same great old hard rubber (steel ebonite they called it), and then refaced by the great Erik Greiffenhagen. Erik did a tidy looking Link style baffle on this one that gives you a combination of warmth and projection that you normally have to buy a $1000+ Link to get. This is a great deal if you want something like the GS RESO/SLANT but black. It had a tiny shank crack, so I banded it with a metal band using half of a ligature. Should last forever that way. Price reduced as a result.

Yamaha SILVER YSS-82ZRS Soprano Saxophone Mint Condition Setup Excellent
$ 4,900This is a mint condition Yamaha YSS-82ZRS soprano. The Yamaha 82ZRS is basically a reissue of the popular Yamaha 62 soprano. The silver versions were the most desirable of the Yamaha YSS-62R on which the 82ZR is based. So if you have always wanted to get a Yamaha YSS-62RS this is nearly identical, but with some upgraded keywork. The main changes are that the left hand pinky (spatula) keys are now easier to operate and the palm keys are a little more comfortable. Yamaha tells me that the bore and dimensions of the 82ZR are exactly the same as the 62R, and on purpose. It is meant to be a modern reissue of the enormously popular 62R. With the 62R, Yamaha finally broke with the Selmer Mark VI soprano tonal concept and do something warmer, rounder, and more pleasant. It became an instant classic. There’s a big demand for more of these, so Yamaha helpfully rose to the occasion.
The reason that the 62R/82ZR is so popular is the combination of one piece design – no neck joint to lose air or resonance – and the warm, complex tone that these horns get. And the bent neck, which brings the horn down onto the neck strap for added comfort. Branford Marsalis plays this model, and sounds wonderful on it. I think he helped with the keywork improvements also. In short, it’s probably the best modern soprano available: Lightest, most resonant, very in tune, most comfortable to play, best long term investment. It’s a modern classic.
If like me, you have always wanted one of these horns in silver, now is your chance. They are hard to find! This one just got its checkup and is ready to go! It is in basically mint condition, but has been played maybe a couple of hours total.

Yamaha YAS-26 Alto Near Mint Condition Great! U72312
$ 1,450This is a fantastic condition Yamaha YAS-26 alto saxophone, that is the top recommendation of most band directors for a first alto saxophone. At $2166, the new price can be a stretch for many band parents. This one saves you $700+ off the price, and the horn looks basically new and plays better than new, because my repairman just went completely over the horn made sure that it’s playing its absolute best. (It got way more attention than a typical YAS-26 you’d buy at Music and Arts or whatever.) Looks new as well, and I can also jump start your saxophone career with some free accessories, and advise you on a good mouthpiece and reed setup to get you going (this can help a LOT).
Only one available! But if you aren’t the lucky family that gets this one, check the altos category for more YAS-23’s and YAS-26’s. I buy them and fix them up as a service to young saxophonists. I make virtually no money doing it, but every good saxophonist I know started on one of these. They really do put you on the right track as a young player. They’re also excellent altos for pros who double on alto or who want a dependable backup alto.
