Nice vintage of Conn 6M alto saxophone. The ones with the Metro stamp pretty much only appear at this serial number. Why are they Metro? I’m not sure anyone actually knows. But they play well! This one is relacquered, so you’re getting it at about half the price of an original one, plus a further price reduction for the pads being old. So for the price of a used student Yamaha 26 alto, you can get one of the best alto saxophones of all time, and add an overhaul to have something really exceptional. I play a Conn like this myself. They are really hard to beat. Besides the new ‘coat of paint’ this one got at some point, I don’t see any evidence of serious past damage. It was relacquered for aesthetic reasons when it was repadded at some point probably 40 years ago. It’s in solid shape and should be a straightforward overhaul for a woodwind repairer who works on vintage saxophones regularly. If you need some recommendations, I can probably recommend someone in your area.
