This is my favorite version of the Conn 6M, and if you are looking for a lead alto sound that is much bigger than anything else ever made, this is the horn for you. You really can’t beat this for tone, carrying power, or overall attractiveness of a lead alto tone. The keywork is also very fast and comfortable. There aren’t many altos of precisely this version, and they are among the best altos ever made for jazz and big band playing. If you don’t believe me, come by and you can play my personal alto, which is exactly like this. This horn needs an overhaul, because it has its original pads at present. But there’s no damage and no repairs. It’s about as close to buying a new 6M in 1932 as you could get, which, if you know vintage saxophones, should be your greatest desire:-). This is priced kind of high compared to your run-of-the-mill 6M, solely because I think this small range of them is the very best, and I tend to search high and low for them. The rest of the 6M’s are really great saxophones too, and they are currently one of the best deals in saxophones that there is period. (There’s a much cheaper, and gorgeous lacquered one on the site that someone should grab.) But if you don’t mind paying more for what I think is the best 6M version available, then you can have this one that I have left after keeping two for myself and selling one to a good friend as a favor.
