Description

Great price!!

This is an unusually-fine example of a Conn New Wonder II ‘Chu Berry’ tenor from 1926. This has its original gold plate almost completely intact (not just lacquered brass) and it looks quite good. The neck is replated. The rest of the horn is totally original. Maybe the neck got a little wear and the owner wanted it touched up?

This horn is in super condition. There are no dents, no dings, no resolders and no other past repairs. It’s SUPER clean. Very uncommon for a 92 year-old saxophone. It has a freshly completed, top-quality full overhaul including all new pads, corks felts, setup, mechanical work, and hand polishing. It includes a new BAM classic tenor case, which is excellent. Gold Conn tenors in this kind of condition rarely come up for sale. This one is nearly the nicest that I have owned, and includes a high-end overhaul. It is sure to maintain or increase its value while you play and enjoy it.

Playing wise, this is pure vintage Conn – velvety smooth if you want; big, wide, and room-filling if you push it even a little. Resonant and responsive, vibrates in your hands. It’s a great horn. These are among the most fun tenors to play that I have experienced, and this one is particularly good.
