Description
This Conn silver 10M tenor is as close to new condition as I have seen for a 75 year old saxophone. It is original silver plate, and it is even more beautiful in person. It’s like going back to the early 1940’s and picking it up from the store. Except that this also has a fresh, top-quality overhaul, and feels like a million bucks too. The pads are firm and snappy and feel like dry paper under the fingers. You can feel a mediocre overhaul on a Conn by its squish. Only the pros can make it feel dry on the rolled tone holes. The resonators are the high-end TenorMadness slightly domed reusable brass type – my favorite for a Conn.
If you are reading this it is probably because you heard somebody playing a Conn at a gig, and everybody in the audience was pulled in. “What’s that sound?” It has a widely expressive quality that pulls you in like a good book. It connects. This is not exaggeration either. It’s the reason why it’s now more common to see a Conn than a Selmer at a club in NYC (I am told). These horns just sound great.
Plus, the intonation is good, ergonomics are good, overtones are easy. Even the keywork is very fast once you get used to it. These are just great saxophones, period.
And this one is as fine an example as you are likely to find. I actually have six top-tier 10M’s on the site right now! And each has a great overhaul too! So you can come play them if you like, and pick your favorite. It’s pretty crazy.
But this Conn silver 10M tenor wins for most beautiful, most pristine. Original pads and no past damage when I got it. Hand polished and carefully overhauled now. It’s easy to describe because there is nothing to say.
Price includes a new BAM case to keep this safe for shipping and gigging.
