Here’s a career-making lead alto for someone to pick up. It also includes a fresh overhaul just finished! The Super 20 altos with sterling neck and bell and gold leaf on the silver bell are perennial favorites for lead alto players because of their bright, warm, singing tone that easily cuts through a band or a section. You get that classic Cannonball/Charlie Parker King alto tone that is warm and bright at the same time. It’s “that sound” that everyone thinks of in a jazz alto. The SilverSonics with gold leaf are really uncommon. and this is a rare chance to get a clean, beautiful, problem-free example of this alto. Grab this horn before it’s gone. It is even nicer in person than it looks in the photos.

Here’s a career-making lead alto for someone to pick up. It also includes a fresh overhaul which is just finished. These work great with a vintage NY Meyer or modern New York Meyer reproduction. It’s “that sound” that everyone thinks of in a jazz alto. Despite the popularity of the Selmer Mark VI, it’s still the Cannonball Adderley tone from Kind of Blue and Somethin’ Else that sticks in my ears the most, and that I hear in coffee shops and cafes and everywhere. This saxophone is what a jazz alto saxophone should sound like.

This is an early third series  Super 20 alto, not long after the end of the pearl side keys. It has the improved left hand pinky cluster that is quite modern-feeling, and it is otherwise basically the same horn as what we call the “Series II” minus the pearl side keys. The neck and bore seem to be the same, and the neck on this horn is particularly nice, with no past damage and no sign of repair.
This horn has very nicely intact gold leaf on the silver bell and a thick gold wash remaining inside the bell, making it one of the best looking SilverSonics that I have seen. It just got a fresh, full overhaul done very well, and it is now playing its very best. Everything that could be done was – all new pads, corks, felts, detailed setup, correct resonators, mechanical work all done. This horn is nice and totally restored and ready to go for the next 10-15 years or more depending on how much you play.

The SilverSonics with gold leaf are really uncommon. This is a rare chance to get a clean, beautiful, problem-free example of this alto. It includes the original King case in good condition too. I would strongly encourage you to also add a modern BAM or Hiscox case for safer shipping. I’d be happy to work with you on a package deal at a ridiculously good price on the case, just to protect the horn optimally. Grab this horn before it’s gone. It is even nicer in person than it looks in the photos.
