This is an incredible, near mint condition King Zephyr Special tenor with full pearls and solid silver neck. This horn still has virtually all of its lacquer intact, including over the silver neck, which is ridiculously rare to see. This Zephyr Special was made in 1941, which was a kind of pinnacle year for American saxophones. It’s rare to find any saxophone that looks this good after 73 years, and finding such a rare and desirable one is really special.

This is an incredible, near mint condition King Zephyr Special tenor with full pearls and solid silver neck. This horn still has virtually all of its lacquer intact, including over the silver neck, which is ridiculously rare to see. It currently has original pads, and needs an overhaul. There were a couple of tiny dings that were removed, so minor as not to show up in the pictures. That is it – no dents, no resolders, neck is perfect – just really really nice. I would like to get this one overhauled by Matt Stohrer, who plays a Zephyr Special himself, but until then, it is sold as is with original pads. What a beauty!

This Zephyr Special was made in 1941, which was a kind of pinnacle year for American saxophones. It’s rare to find any saxophone that looks this good after 73 years, and finding such a rare and desirable one is really special. This horn has no dents or dings, and looks gorgeous with full pearls on palm and side keys and G#.

Compared to a full pearls “Series II” Super 20, (like post 305k serial) the Zephyr Special is darker, smokier, and more spread. It has tons of power and will shake the walls when pushed. The tone on these is just to die for – I don’t know of any other tenor saxophone besides the Selmer Balanced Action that I like as well. It’s an ideal all-around vintage tenor for any style, and it will certainly not hold you back! Whoever buys this horn will not be disappointed. It’s a joy to behold and should be a wonderful player with an overhaul. I have the original case for it, but it is not in great condition. This horn will ship in a modern case, and you can discuss with me which one you would prefer.
