Description

This is one of the best looking factory relacquer jobs that I have seen. Mechanically and cosmetically, it looks and feels and plays very much like original lacquer Mark VI’s from the 50’s do. So if you’ve been looking for a very nice early VI tenor for a good price, this would probably be it.

Back in the day, the Selmer Elkhart factory would do these finish jobs using chemical stripping, so there was minimal buffing required. This horn’s engraving looks almost as good as an original VI. The tone is medium dark and powerful. The price includes a FRESH OVERHAUL, which is being done this month (August 2018). An overhaul (people always ask) means that everything that can be changed gets done, and done correctly: all new pads, corks, and felts, professional setup, key fit checked and improved, neck fit checked and improved, full disassembly, cleaning, all new oil, lots of play testing. This is a big job and takes a skilled woodwind repairman around 25 hours to do. It means the horn will play like a new saxophone! Condition wise, it looks like a small dent was removed in the upper stack area maybe 2″ below the neck receiver, but it’s hard to tell now, as it was done well and before the refinish. Photos are before the overhaul, but the saxophone will look nearly identical after. If you want it as-is, not overhauled, email me for the lower price not including all the work, and if it isn’t done yet, we can discuss that. But it’s better to get it overhauled if you aren’t used to getting vintage saxophones restored. It’s kind of a specialized thing, and once it’s done, the horn is all set for many years to come!
