Really clean Mark VI altos near 140xxx tend to be the most desirable VI altos, and this is a beautiful example of one. People love these horns because they have a gorgeous tone that is complex and projects really well. This horn has almost all of its original lacquer intact, with just moderate play wear. It is on consignment for a collector who collects this serial range of VI alto.
The neck, bow, and bell flare are all beautiful and undamaged. The Eb key guard has one foot that was resoldered, and the Eb/C post has seen just a minor push in. This horn has the optional high F# key, which may be a big plus for many players. These horns tune really well, so they are ideal VI’s for players who want to play both jazz and classical repertoire. The tone is gorgeous on either one. The pads on this horn are very old – some may be original from 1967, so plan on getting this overhauled by the tech of your choice, or let me know and I can get it done really well for you as a second option.
