Selmer Mark VI Alto from 1967 Original Lacquer Great Player!

I think that the VI altos between 136500-149xxx are probably the creme de la creme of Mark VI altos, all things considered.  It’s original lacquer, good mechanical condition with minimal damage or repairs, and the original neck is in great shape and not pulled down or dented. It’s a true player’s VI alto.

Description

I think that the VI altos between 136500-149xxx are probably the creme de la creme of Mark VI altos, all things considered. 136500 is when the “long bow” ended and the “medium bow” length began for Selmer. Basically, they finally got the bell key intonation to work well at this point. (They had been experimenting with bow lengths on select altos in ’57-59 as well.)

These horns still have the richer, warmer tone of early 60’s VI altos (my favorite altos for tone are in the ones from late 60k serial up through 119k serial), but they have a big, projecting power that some earlier VI’s lack. More even scale as well.

This is one of the best playing altos in this “sweet spot” that I have seen. It’s original lacquer, and the lacquer shows wear from regular use, but not from damage! This horn has been well-cared-for since new, based on the details of the mechanical condition. You have to look at the bones of the horn, not just the shine, and this horn has good bones. I don’t see any evidence of past repairs at all. It’s super clean, despite being speckly cosmetically. The original neck is in great shape and has not been damaged. The strap hook was moved a bit for better balance, but that’s the only modification. The pads feel snappy and are in good condition, and the overhaul is good and will last a long time.

This is the Selmer Mark VI alto to have for a player. It is similarly bright compared to the 168k silver plate VI alto I have now, but this one is a bit warmer and more complex, where that one is more crisp and edgy.

Only one available. Get it before it’s gone!
