This is one of those rare horns that you see once or twice a year (usually on this site!)– a mint condition Mark VI alto saxophone. If you could turn back the clock and buy a new VI alto in 1964, this is what you would get. There are no dents or dings, and there is almost no lacquer wear at all. This horn has its original pads and it still plays very well on them. It has a big, medium-dark, tone. This alto is in my favorite serial range for tone quality – the altos between 100-119xxx seem to have a consistent power and a tenor-like quality to the sound that makes for really excellent playing. I have a few different cases that I could ship this horn in. I have recently become a Hiscox case dealer, so I can sell you the best case in the world to put it in if you like.
A few more details, just to be thorough: no past repairs, no resolders, bell flare is perfect, bottom bow is perfect, neck has matching serial number and is perfect, and it has American engraving. Plus the lacquer has aged to a dark, honey tone with a hint of green in it. It doesn’t get much better than this for a VI alto.
