This is an original lacquer Selmer Mark VII tenor that just came in from a customer on consignment. THis horn has most of its original lacquer intact, and it also has a fresh overhaul that feels quite good under the fingers. It has had some dents removed from the bell flare, bell, and a couple from the back of the body. The alternate F# keyguard is also resoldered, and the original neck has been pulled down and repaired. Besides leaving some lacquer loss in their wake, these repairs all were done well, so the horn is in fine playing condition now.
Tonally, the Mark VII is actually really interesting. It can play dark and muted with a classical mouthpiece, giving you a woody, round kind of tone. But with a more jazz/commercial leaning mouthpiece, the horn naturally brightens up, becoming medium bright with quite a bit of edge and lots of power. If you are looking for a great Selmer Paris saxophone under $3k, this would be a very good option. The build quality is, after all, better than the more recent Selmers (with their spring-loaded or plastic screws), and the tone is really nice too. This horn ships in the heavy duty original case, which is in good condition.
