If you’ve never played a properly overhauled Selmer Reference 36, then you really have probably never played one. They are fantastic instruments, once all the factory pad work is removed and replaced with a good high-end overhaul. We used Pisoni Italian leather pads and reusable slightly domed brass resonators, which is the best combination I know for these. Now this horn is just amazing and effortless to play. If you want a Selmer with some body, instant response, super easy low register, and modern keywork, this is it! Based on the Supreme altos I’ve gotten in, Selmer has done nothing to improve its factory setup, so the new Selmers still need a lot of work when you get them new. This is a chance to get a near mint example of a Ref 36 that has already had everything fixed permanently and that just plays how it should.
