From one of the best saxophone collections in the country comes this superb SBA tenor saxophone. The former owner has gone through hundreds and hundreds of saxophones over the last several years, and this was the SBA that he kept to play for a long time. How, he’s reducing the size of his collection, and this is available for sale. It is original lacquer, SN# 50xxx with matching serial number on the neck. The neck had a pickup removed, and the job was done well. The neck is not pulled down. The rest of the body is clean with no dents or dings, and nothing worse than a resoldered low Eb key guard (which is very minor and very common on Selmers).
This horn is one of the best playing SBA’s I have played, in a tie with the silver 53k SBA that also came through recently. It’s kind of a matter of taste between the two, this being a bit more spread and smoky and the silver one being a bit more powerful and focused. It’s hard to go wrong with either one, honestly.
This horn has been played, and you can tell. It comes alive effortlessly, and the sound is really resonant and full. If you’re looking for a serious SBA to play and own while it appreciates, this would be a great example. You could hardly find a better player, and it’s not so perfect that you’d be afraid to get it out of the case (trust me, this happens!).
