Yamaha YSS-62R Soprano Near Mint 3 Digit

Description

This is a very nearly mint condition Yamaha 62R soprano in the original case, with the original mouthpiece and keys. It has an extremely desirable 3-digit serial# 9xx, so it is one of the very early ones with the low C# key on the top. It has no dents, very few scratches, and no past repairs. There is just the slightest speckling in the lacquer in a couple of places, like on the low C pad cup (this is very hard to see), and some light scratches inside the bell. The pads seal well and are in good condition.

This horn really sounds good too. I love the tone of vintage Yamaha purple label horns. It has a ‘vintage’ (or at least semi-vintage) warmth and complexity to it that goes away on the newer Yamahas. The body of the sax is resonant and vibrates when you play. The tone is medium between bright and dark, with a warmth and richness that makes this a nice soprano saxophone to listen to. It also has very comfortable keywork ergonomically, and the great intonation that makes Yamaha saxophones so good. I should also mention that it comes with an extra Rousseau mouthpiece along with the original Yamaha one.

So to sum up, this is a very clean example of what is possibly the greatest soprano saxophone model ever made. You can feel confident in buying this horn, not only to play, but also as an investment.
