Yanagisawa consistently makes world-class saxophones, and their sopranos and baritones are particularly excellent. The baritones are now very expensive new, but they are still often back-ordered! This is a beautiful example of a Yanagisawa baritone, which is similar to the B900 but made for sale under the Vito/VSP name. It’s exactly the same as the Yanagisawa branded baris like this, and it’s a great horn.

Cosmetically, there is not much at all to mention. I don’t think this horn was played much at all ever. There is some very light lacquer wear in a few places. Other than that, the horn is near mint, with no dents, dings, or past repairs. The pads are in great shape and the horn plays down to low A easily. It comes in a boxy wood case that is probably original, and you can talk to me about adding a modern contoured case for safer shipping and easier gigging. (Modern case options include SKB, ProTec, and BAM.)

I am a big fan of Yanagisawa baris – they have amazingly good intonation across all three octaves, and the tone is warm, clear, and flexible. You can sound vintage with an older mouthpiece, easily play classical or concert repertoire, or play R&B or funk just by swapping to a different mouthpiece. Ergonomics are very comfortable, and the horn feels light for being a low A. It is not often that you can get a really clean used Yanagisawa for a reasonable price, so someone should grab this asap. Investment wise, it will easily hold its value as you own and play it, so there’s not really even any depreciation involved in owning it, while you enjoy it. Quite the opposite.
