The Yanagisawa 880 Series is my favorite for tone out of the various Yanagisawa options. It has more warmth and complexity than the most recent models, but it retains the excellent build quality, modern ergonomics, and dead-on intonation that makes Yanagisawa famous. That said, all of the Yanagisawas are really really good horns, and they all have a great tone. The 880’s just have a bit more warmth in my experience.

This particular horn is in very good condition with a few light scratches in the lacquer in a couple of places. There are no dents or dings. The body is straight, and both necks are in great shape. The octave key may have popped off of the curved neck at some point, because there’s just a bit more solder under the saddle for that key than you usually see. That’s all that I can find to mention. It’s a super clean example of what is one of the best modern sopranos in my opinion. The tone is as I describe above – medium between bright and dark, lyrical and warm with an interesting complexity to it, not nasal, just round and singing. If you desperately have to have a high G key, I currently have an equally nice S990 that will be listed soon.
