Early Selmer tenors combine great keywork and Selmer build quality with a bigger, warmer, more spread tone to make a combination that is very hard to beat. And this is the most beautiful one that I have ever seen. It’s a 10/10 in basically every way. This is the **original** silver plate from 1931-32! It is almost 100% present, and this horn just had an $1100 full overhaul done by Saxquest last year with Pisoni pads and TenorMadness domed metal resonators. It’s almost unbelievably nice. And it plays HUGE, with that full, spread, medium dark tone that absolutely no modern tenors can approach. The keywork is also remarkably easy to get around on. It would be hard to find a nicer example of an early Selmer. Get it before it’s gone! I don’t think there will be another one like this for a while.

It is almost 100% present, and this horn just had an $1100 full overhaul done by Saxquest last year with Pisoni pads and TenorMadness domed metal resonators. All they had to do was gently hand-polish the original silver to make the horn look this nice. There are no past repairs, and there are no dents, no dings, no resoldered posts or key guards. The original neck has not been pulled down. Even the gold wash in the bell is very dark gold. It’s almost unbelievably nice. And it plays HUGE, with that full, spread, medium dark tone that absolutely no modern tenors can approach. The keywork is also remarkably easy to get around on. For you Selmer history geeks out there, this horn has features of a New Large Bore, and features of a Super Sax, keywork changes, neck receiver design, later serial etc. The Saxquest overhaul receipt calls it a Super, and so would most people. Back in the day, it was just the “Selmer Tenor Saxophone”- it is only we Americans who were obsessed with giving everything a discrete model name. In reality it is a more gradual development. Anyway, enjoy the photos. This horn is going to make someone really happy!
