This Yamaha 62 tenor is in excellent condition. Each of the Yamaha models has its strengths and weaknesses, but as far as I am concerned, the early, purple label 62’s are easily the best made so far for getting a warm, complex tone reminiscent of vintage SelmersIt has almost all of the original silver plate. It has no dents or current issues. It has had a few small dents removed – by the D palm key and by the low C/Eb post. The Eb key guard was also resoldered. The bow and bell flare look good, and the body tube is clean as well. This horn was just put into good playing condition and plays very well! These horns are hard to beat for all-around playability, tone, ergonomics, and intonation, which is probably why they are still so popular with pro players today.

Each of the Yamaha models has its strengths and weaknesses, but as far as I am concerned, the early, purple label 62’s are easily the best made so far for getting a warm, complex tone reminiscent of vintage Selmers (the next best tenors are the original 875, I think). They have a vintage warmth and complexity to the tone while giving you Yamaha’s excellent ergonomics and intonation. That makes these very hard horns to beat. For anyone who wants to go vintage but not too vintage, this horn is a no-brainer.

Collectibility-wise, there were only a few of these early 62’s made in silver plate. This is the first (and only) tenor that I have seen. The soprano and alto versions are equally hard to find and command a premium price. This particular 62 is in excellent condition. It has almost all of the original silver plate.

If you are interested in having a great combination of interesting tone, modern keywork, good intonation and beauty/rarity/collectibility, then this is an excellent choice. This horn ships in the original case, which is in good condition. This is a turn key purchase for a beautiful, rare, and great-playing tenor saxophone!
