When people come to me looking for a very good playing Mark VI for the best possible price, I always direct them to this vintage of alto. These later 60’s VI altos will definitely go up in value in coming years, as the market comes to appreciate that they are the best all-around playing VI altos. They tune the best, they have a beautiful tone, and the build quality is every bit as good as the earlier ones. They’re among the best all-around altos ever made, but they are also very affordable, and sell lower than some new Japanese and Taiwanese horns! It’s kind of crazy. Get one now while they are still gettable.

This horn is very clean and beautiful. It has just enough lacquer wear that you don’t have to worry about taking it out and playing it, but it has been very well cared-for, and is a one-owner horn. The pads are old, and it needs a repad, but the price reflects that also, and I find that many pro players what their own guy to do the work anyhow. If you want me to get this overhauled for you as part of a deal, just let me know. I’ll get the job done best ever.

Even with old pads, it plays great with a rich, medium-bright tone. It’s warm, free blowing, and responsive. This is the sort of alto that people think of when they are looking for a good Mark VI.
