This is a really really gorgeous, physically perfect Conn “Chu Berry” New Wonder II alto that has amazingly nice burnished gold plate finish. It also has hands down the nicest looking engraving in the little cabin scene on the bell. The detail and shading in this scene shows the mark of a truly masterful engraver – probably one of the famous Stenberg brothers, who did Conn’s best engraving. If there’s an engraving-guru who cruises the site, maybe you could tell me if it’s Julius or Charles!
The microtuner neck works well, and all the keywork is in good condition. It is in original condition, including old pads, so it’s ready to get repadded by the tech of your choice. I can also discuss options with you as well if you’re interested. It ships in a beautiful original case, but if you want to add a Hiscox case for safer shipping (especially internationally) I would be happy to work one into the deal at a great price.
These horns have a big, warm, powerful, projecting tone that fills up a room with ease. The intonation is typically good-though-flexible, and the tone makes up for the vintage ergonomics. These horns are very affordable right now, so it’s a great time to buy an amazingly beautiful, gold-plated horn for less than half the price of just getting the plating done on a horn today!
