This is an original, gold plated Conn New Wonder II ‘Chu Berry’ Alto Saxophone. It is extremely clean, with 99% of the gold plate. It has no dents, no dings, no resolders, and no past repairs. The neck is original and looks perfect. The micro tuner turns freely on the neck. It has gorgeous engraving in the gold plate. Conn used extremely thick gold plate on these horns, so it will be there for decades with very little wear.
This sax has just had a repad new felts and corks as well. It has been gently hand polished so that it is now gleaming and looks nearly new. It is hard to beat the tone of the Conn New Wonder II altos. The ergonomics are definitely not up to modern standards, but you get used to it, and what you lose in comfort, you gain in sound. This horn has a big, warm, smoky tone with lots of character. It works great with a range of mouthpieces. This is a great saxophone for anyone who wants to play jazz, big band, R&B, or even classical sax. The intonation is very good, and the spring tension is set nicely.
This is an easy, turnkey purchase for a beautiful and great-playing sax.
