The most lively vintage alto – the one that shakes in your hands, blows down walls, and whispers most sweetly – is the Conn New Wonder II ‘Chu Berry.’ These horns are not that expensive right now – they used to be a lot more than this. And this one is a rare gold-plated example in near mint condition. It has been carefully hand polished (pictures are before polishing and will be updated soon) and it is ready for new pads. You can’t buy gold plated horns anymore that are plated with thick gold like this, because gold has become too expensive. Even back in the 20’s, Conn reserved the gold plate finish for its best-playing horns.  These altos are so fun to play, and the tone is so warm, lyrical, and inviting, that you won’t mind the older keywork.

And this one is a rare gold-plated example in near mint condition. It has been carefully hand polished (pictures are before polishing and will be updated soon) and it is ready for new pads. It still plays pretty well on the original factory Conn reso-pads, which is a testament to the workmanship of depression-era American manufacturing. This horn has no dents, no dings, no resolders and no other past repairs. There is a bit of plate wear on the neck, but overall the horn looks amazing.
