Selmer Mark VI Tenor 159k Original Lacquer High F# Very Good Condition

Beautiful original lacquer Selmer Mark VI Tenor saxophone from 1968. It is in very good condition with no dents or dings. The neck is in great shape, as is the bell flare and bow. The only repair I see is a nearly invisble one to the octave lever arm at the top of the body tube. (Got a bit damaged from the way it lays in the case, but the fix is superb.) It’s uncommon to find such a beautiful example of a Selmer Mark VI tenor, and this one also comes with the rare high F# key option also included. This Mark VI is priced on the low side for quick sale. It still plays surprisingly well on the mostly original factory pads! If you’re going to play it a lot, you should plan on getting it repadded before too long, though I have known folks to stretch the original pad life a surprisingly long way!

The tone is medium between bright and dark. Not too dark, not too bright. It has a focused, lyrical core and is nice and free blowing. The later VI’s like in the 200k serial range tend to be more bright and bold playing, where the 150-160k’s are more balanced and ‘just right’ tonally. If you’re looking for a gorgeous Mark VI that sounds great, looks great, and has all the bells and whistles, and that has no hidden problems or concerns, this would be a prime example to consider. For what you get, it’s priced quite low in comparison to other similar horns that I see around. And these are only going up in value.
