Selmer Soloist Alto .082″ Kenny Garrett-style Ted Klum MPC254

Ted Klum does some of the best mouthpiece facing work that I have seen ever. This is a beautifully done Selmer Soloist-style piece that Ted opened to .082, or around a modern 7 tip. This is equivalent to around an E or F stamped Soloist tip opening. People get these pieces opened up when they are going for the Kenny Garrett style of alto tone.

Description

Ted Klum does some of the best mouthpiece facing work that I have seen ever. This is a beautifully done Selmer Soloist-style piece that Ted opened to .082, or around a modern 7 tip. This is equivalent to around an E or F stamped Soloist tip opening. People get these pieces opened up when they are going for the Kenny Garrett style of alto tone. Kenny (I am told) has played various Soloist and Soloist-style pieces all opened up from smaller tips. Opening up the piece brings the floor/baffle area relatively higher so that you get a bit more edge and projection from what is a basically dark, round sounding mouthpiece. With a powerful airstream you can get that jazz tone on one of these, and you could not find a better or more responsive facing than Ted Klum put on this piece. Just the reface by Ted is $225, and the 70’s soloist style piece costs minimum $175, so the price is quite good on this.
