The Yamaha 62 tenor was Yamaha’s top of the line model when this horn was made. This is an 80’s model, which is the best vintage for buying a 62. And if what you like is a horn that feels more complex tonally, tunes great, is well-made, and is super easy to play, then this is probably what you should buy. You should also note, this is a much better horn than the modern intermediate models called Yamaha 62-II or 62-III. This is the original, pro horn that is equivalent in sound and quality to the highly coveted YSS-62 sopranos.

This horn has a big sound, tonally medium between bright and dark, and tunes easily. It works with a wide variety of mouthpieces, and you can use it for classical or jazz. I just had a jazz player in who played a bunch of vintage Selmers and Conns, and he was very pleased with how this horn compared even to the expensive vintage Selmers.

There are no past repairs, and the pads are in great shape. It’s one-owner, pro-owned and very nice. The case is nice too. If you want an easy-to-own, do-it-all tenor, well, this is a no-brainer. It’s less expensive than many new Taiwanese saxophones, and the build quality is better.
