This is a near mint example of a Yamaha YTS-62 professional tenor sax. This horn has not been played much at all. It is in great playing condition and the only wear is a little spot on the back of the body tube. The pads are in excellent condition as well. This horn has a clear, round, medium-bright tone and excellent intonation. The ergonomics are as good as it gets, and the feel under your fingers is just what you expect in a great tenor. This is the middle version of the 62. It is not the early purple label, nor is it the 62II that is made today. This one retains some of the complexity and punch to the tone that made the purple label horns great, yet it has sturdier construction and feels generally more modern than the earlier horn. It is also more interesting to play than the modern 62II. The II version (not this one) is very clear and round, leaving it up to the mouthpiece to give the horn’s tone something to interest. This horn would be great for the all-around player, the serious student, and anyone who needs to play modern compositions or play in tune with an ensemble. It works for jazz as well (has the G1 neck) and sounds good with a vintage mouthpiece as well as a modern one. It ships in a nice case as well that should be very protective.
