This is an excellent condition Selmer Super Action 80 Alto Saxophone. This horn is a Series 1, which has a darker, more complex tone than the Series II’s and III’s do. The Series I’s also have great build quality, employing real pivot screws (not spring loaded ones like the more recent Selmers). It plays GREAT and feels really good under the fingers. The great thing about these horns is that the dark core tone is ideal for serious saxophone study/lessons/college and also combines well with a brighter jazz mouthpiece to give you a nice jazz tone as well. If I were buying a modern Selmer alto, I would buy a nice Series I like this over the others, for all of the above reasons.

Of modern Selmer sopranos, the one with the best and most durable build quality is the Series 1. It is all metal and has better construction and key fitting than later Selmers. This means better playability and consistency and less maintenance needed over time. Another reason to buy one of these is that it has the best tone of any Selmer soprano, to my ear, at least. It is a definite departure from the more tinny-tending Mark VI soprano design, and it is darker and fatter sounding than the later Series II or III horns. You get a fairly dark, complex, round tone with some complexity to it, and that is fairly desirable on soprano. This is an easy, turn-key purchase for a beautiful professional Selmer soprano saxophone.

If you want a Selmer Paris tenor that is both built to higher standards than the new Selmers, and that costs half as much as a new one, then this may be the horn for you. The new Selmers are selling over $8k now, which makes used ones kind of an obvious choice. The Super Action 80 Series 1 tenors were probably the best built modern Selmers, with Paris-made keywork, metal pivot screws, and generally reliable construction throughout. These horns don’t wear out over time.

It’s also a versatile horn. You can sound really good playing classical on it because of the dark, round core. But you can also wail playing R&B or jazz with a higher baffle mouthpiece like a Freddie Gregory, Lamberson, or an EB Otto Link.

For the total package of tone, playing condition, Selmer name and build, this is a very good value. There’s only one available! Get it now, before it’s gone!

Selmer Super Action 80 Series 1 Tenor Excellent condition

These Selmer Series I tenors are beasts in the playing department. They have a much darker, more focused core to the tone than the Series II or III tenors. Of Selmers, the tone is most similar to an early Mark VI – dark, punchy, complex, with a bit of an edge if you push it. It’s a little clearer and rounder than my 81k tenor. I did a side-by-side comparison with my 81k VI just to make sure. One advantage is that this Series I tenor has more modern ergonomics, so the palm keys and side keys are a bit more comfortable than on a VI.

Selmer Super Action 80 Series 1 Tenor Recent Overhaul 337710

The Selmer Series 1 tenor has the best build quality of any modern Selmer. It has normal pivot screws and is easy to work on and adjust. It also has better pad geometry and lacks the cost-cutting measures that Selmer put into place starting with the Series II and getting more pronounced up to the present.

It also has arguably the best tone for a lot of players of any modern Selmer. The tone is dark, powerful, and focused, and very ‘Selmer-y’ of course. Meaning, it’s not dark and fat and punchy like a Keilwerth, and it’s not dark and velvety and spread like a Conn, or dark and loud and raucous like a King Zephyr Special. It’s dark and centered and focused and under control, with good intonation and precise scale and definition between notes. It works fine with a range of mouthpieces, unlike a Series II or III which tend to be more mouthpiece-picky. You can play jazz, rock, and commercial music (even, gasp, smooth jazz) on a Series 1 and sound great. I know a lot of folks who pair them with a high baffle piece and use them for smooth jazz and rock and sound great. Crisp, projecting, but still fat in the upper register.

This one is in nice shape and plays well on the recent overhaul, done for the owner (it’s on consignment) by Peter Lamb at Flying Squirrel Music in Raleigh NC.

This is a gorgeous original silver Selmer Series II alto in excellent condition. It is mechanically in better than new shape, because it has had a full overhaul done by Kim Bock, who is an outstanding tech in Queens, NY. This is a turn-key purchase on a beautiful and problem-free modern Selmer. Grab this and you will be getting something built better than the newer ones (which have plastic parts where this has metal) and which is in much better than new playing condition.

This is a gorgeous original silver Selmer Series II alto in excellent, near mint condition. It is mechanically in better than new shape, because it has had a full overhaul and then a thorough, recent setup by Ken Beason. This particular horn is probably the most responsive Series II that I have played. It has a big voice and can easily cover a wide dynamic range. The tone is classic Series II, which means fairly clear and round, medium between bright and dark, with a delicate “French” core to it. It is just a really clean, exceptionally good-playing (and notice that I don’t say that about every single horn on the site), and beautiful Series II alto that has already had its factory pads replaced and has a world-class setup. Ideally, someone who is in the market for a new Series II will get smart and buy this instead. It comes in the original case in excellent condition, by the way.

Gorgeous example of a Selmer Series II alto that plays really well on a fresh setup. The pads were and are in excellent condition, so they’re mostly original. It pops nicely, and plays easily throughout the full range. This would be an excellent classical alto, and the price is about half what you play for a new one. Plus this is better made than the current production anyway.

This is very good condition Selmer Super Action 80 Series II alto saxophone. The series II is the standard saxophone for serious study. It is the most popular professional Selmer saxophone ever made, having sold more than even the Mark VI, and it is the horn most highly-recommended by saxophone instructors in universities and private studios across the USA.

Selmer Super Action 80 Series II Alto Saxophone 517537 SA80-II Excellent Condition Great Price!

Save thousands of dollars getting this beautiful condition used Selmer Series II alto. This instrument has very little wear, and comes to you in excellent condition. It just got several new pads and a thorough setup, so it is playing very well and effortlessly throughout. As I’m sure you know, the Series II is the standard, go-to alto saxophone for serious saxophone study. You never need to upgrade it, and you can take it to college for saxophone study and it will be in good company there with a lot of other Series II’s and III’s. The tone is balanced, warm, clear and round, with a lyrical core tone and very good intonation. The Series II likes to have a classical style or concert mouthpiece like a Selmer S80 C* or D, or a Selmer Concept etc. Lots of other mouthpieces work, but if you’re not sure what to get, then get one of those two.

Saxophones don’t really wear out if you maintain them, so there’s really no reason not to save a few thousand dollars on a nice used example of one of the most popular professional alto saxophones. You can keep this for the rest of your life and play it. It will hold its value as long as you own it. These are only going to go up in price over time.

It is the most popular professional Selmer saxophone ever made, having sold more than even the Mark VI, and it is the horn most highly-recommended by saxophone instructors in universities and private studios across the USA. There are no dents, no dings, no past repairs, and the horn has excellent pads and has just been checked out by a very good saxophone technician, so that it is playing its best.

Here is a beautiful horn that I just got in on trade. It is a mint condition, hardly-played Selmer Super Action 80 Series II alto SN 579xxx. This is not the current Jubilee model, but the better, real Series II. This model has been and will continue to be the most desirable horn for classical saxophone studies bar none. Now that Selmer is no longer making these, the only way to get one is to buy a used one. I will try to keep a nice one in stock for interested buyers if at all possible. Right now, I have three (the other two are lacquered), so send me an email if you’re interested in one of those before it goes up on the site.

Selmer Super Action 80 Series II Tenor Like New Overhauled 2 Necks! 435k

This is a mint, like new Selmer Series II tenor that just got a full high end overhaul through GetASax. It has the extra neck octave pip/’harmonic key’ for easier altissimo, and it WORKS! It also comes with a second, silver plated Series II neck if you want to compare and contrast. This horn came new in the plastic, but it’s a 435k serial, so that’s why I went ahead and completely overhauled it. The dry, thin original Selmer pads were going to give you a lackluster playing experience, and I felt like it really deserved the full treatment. If you’ve been wanting a Series II tenor with all the bells and whistles, that responds better than new, and that will hold up better than a new one, this is it! Plus the harmonic key really is a useful feature. I’m impressed!

This horn has almost all of its original lacquer and it has no dents or dings or resolders anywhere on it. The neck has not been pulled down. The bell flare is perfect, and the bottom bow is perfect. There is a little speckling in the lacquer on the bell and just a few other places, and there is some shadowing as well from the original factory spraying and from sitting in a case for a long time. For a 25 year old horn, this is near mint condition. The pads are a mix of older and newer, and they are sealing very well.

Selmer Super Balanced Action Alto Saxophone 41881 Euro Very Clean Condition Chesterfield Case

This is a very clean relacquered Selmer Super (Balanced) Action SBA Alto saxophone from 1950 in extremely good physical condition.  The original owner’s family says it has never been refinished, and my repairman says it still has many of its original pads, though I think it must be a factory relacquer to look this good. (Pads could be factory from the refinish). I could be wrong, which would make this an extremely good price. I just watched one of these sell on shopgoodwill.com for $6501 with terrible photos and an error-filled description, so go figure.  With this particular version of Euro-engraved and lacquered Selmer, it can be hard to tell, because they were originally engraved first, then lightly buffed and lacquered, which is what a relacquer looks like at other vintages. Nevertheless, I’m selling it as a relacquer, due to the red rouge (buffing compound) in the little nooks and crannies of the horn, that I do not think is likely to be original. OK enough about lacquer. It’s just a coat of paint after all. The horn is what matters, and this one is super nice and very clean mechanically and cosmetically.

No past repairs, no resolders, no damage to the neck, body tube, or bell flare. Pads are old, so plan on an overhaul, and it will be a wonderful player with a rich, medium dark tone with a moderately focused, lyrical core.  It comes in its original Chesterfield case with both zippers still smooth and fully functional (what a treat!), and it sports the Euro-style engraving, having been assembled in Paris and imported to Canada where it was originally sold.

This saxophone, though due for an overhaul, is in uncommonly clean physical condition.  There are no dents or repaired dents, no evidence of any resolders, the pearls are largely unworn, and the neck has no evidence of past repairs or pulldowns.  There are some scratches in the lacquer from the neck strap, and some wear from where it sat against the case, but the lacquer remains at 95% plus. There is some playing wear on the touchpieces for the palm keys and the octave key and thumbrest, but combined with the overall excellence of the physical condition I believe the owner of this saxophone was careful and meticulous, and loved this horn very much.  If you’ve been thinking of springing for the lush, full tone of a Selmer SBA, don’t want to be afraid to play it, would like to get it overhauled to your specs, and would like to get a specimen that should hold its value over time, it would be hard to go wrong with this one. It’s a superb deal as well, on a sax that will play and sound warmer, and more beautiful than any modern pro saxophone, and that will also be more satisfying to own and will hold its value better. Only one available!

Here is a beautiful, original silver SBA alto from the prime serial range of 44xxx. This horn has virtually all its silver plate intact, and the only repairs are a resoldered low C keyguard (very well done), and some small dings removed from the back of the bow at some point – I’m being very picky here. This horn has just received a full overhaul from Matt Stohrer, who is one of the best saxophone specialists in the business. I have to say, even if you are looking for a Mark VI, this horn is a strong contender for what you should get instead.

The satin silver was only done by the British distributor, which sold to Australia and New Zealand also. This horn comes from the original owner in Australia. It is currently getting a thorough setup to  get it into top playing condition. It had a recent overhaul in 2017 and was put away since then. Should be a very good player when the work is done. No resolders, no dents or dings. It’s in great shape. I have a photo of Jerome Selmer holding the last one of this rare finish that I had in the shop. It was freshly overhauled and glorious! This one is nearly as nice.

I think that SBA altos are going to be the next big thing in vintage altos. They have a mostly-undeserved reputation for being stuffy – a quality I have only experienced on a couple of SBA’s and that I find to be equally present if not more common in early VI altos!! This horn feels super-tight, will last at least 5-10 years on the fresh overhaul with no need for any more than minor adjustments, and plays effortlessly, and very much like a good example of an early Mark VI.

Here’s a very nice original Selmer SBA tenor that has about 97% of its original lacquer intact. It has had some minor dings removed from the back of the bow and from the bell. The neck was pulled down a little bit (not bad at all) and this was fixed by Aaron Barnard, who is the best in the world at that kind of work, so the neck is now in excellent shape. Besides that, the horn appears to be in clean original condition, with original pads and metal resonators intact. The American engraving is beautiful, and the lacquer has aged to that dark honey color that everyone loves in these horns.

Selmer Super Balanced Action Tenor 1954 Worn Original Lacquer Recent Overhaul Excellent 54611

This is a gorgeous worn original lacquer Selmer Super (Balanced) Action tenor that has good pads and plays great. It was overhauled through GetASax 5 years ago, then well-cared for in the meantime. It just got a fresh COA and is playing wonderfully. The pads are italian leather Pisoni, and the resonators are the nice brass slighty domed metal reusable ones that I like to use on vintage Selmers.

I bought this horn from the family of the original owner back in 2018, and it had almost all its original lacquer intact, but it’s the fragile vintage type that was all sort of peeling off. So when we washed and cleaned this up, almost all the original lacquer came off. It also needed some mechanical work at the time – swedging keys to reverse the friction of lots of playing and a resoldered rib by low Eb post, and the octave lever post also. It’s a great deal and a great player, if you want an SBA that has everything fixed, hasn’t been relacquered, and isn’t super expensive. It also looks cool. Includes the BAM Cabine or a different BAM case if you want to discuss options.

It just had a superb top-shelf overhaul and has had no significant past damage. This horn is tight and ready to go, and has that sound.

This beautiful Selmer Super (Balanced) Action Tenor is in extremely nice condition. It has almost all of its original silver plate intact, and it has been overhauled recently. Playing wise, this is a very good SBA. It has everything you want out of an SBA – it’s darker and slightly more spread feeling than a Mark VI. The lower register is lush, and the upper register is delicate and lyrical. It is very easy to play a nice, saturated pianissimo lower register and whisper like Getz. You really would have trouble finding a nicer SBA – super clean structurally, great overhaul mechanically, outstanding sonically, and beautiful cosmetically.

From one of the best saxophone collections in the country comes this superb SBA tenor saxophone. The former owner has gone through hundreds and hundreds of saxophones over the last several years, and this was the SBA that he kept to play for a long time. How, he’s reducing the size of his collection, and this is available for sale. It is original lacquer, SN# 50xxx with matching serial number on the neck. The neck had a pickup removed, and the job was done well. The neck is not pulled down. The rest of the body is clean with no dents or dings, and nothing worse than a resoldered low Eb key guard (which is very minor and very common on Selmers). This horn is one of the best playing SBA’s I have played, in a tie with the silver 53k SBA that also came through recently.

Selmer Super Balanced Action Tenor Original Silver Recent Overhaul Excellent Condition 38828

This is an amazing original silver plate Selmer Super (Balanced) Action Tenor saxophone from 1949 that is in excellent condition with a recent overhaul and plays GREAT! You’d be hard-pressed to find a better SBA for a better price anywhere right now. This horn had a very nice full overhaul just a couple of years ago, and it was put away by a collector in the meantime, so the overhaul is nearly fresh. I just got it completely checked over cleaned up, tuned up and ready to go, so it is playing to its full potential! That’s something that is pretty rare in a vintage Selmer. The condition is beautiful, as you can see, with almost all of the original silver plate intact. This is similar to the SBA’s played Chris Potter, Joshua Redman, and Branford Marsalis, and it’s slightly earlier than Coltrane’s SBA but has the same double bell key guards etc. I’m selling this in a brand new BAM Cabine tenor case in blackj, which really sets off the look of the horn, and represents about a $500+ added value included in the price. You’d be hard pressed to find a nicer, cleaner, better playing example of an SBA anywhere near this price. It will also go up in value while you own it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it went up quite a bit, because this is definitely one of the nicer examples of this type of SBA tenor in existence.

This is a really nice, factory relacquered Selmer SBA tenor saxophone in that super-desirable Coltrane serial range. These horns are easy to spot because they have the individual bell key guards which then disappear around 42k. This horn looks original and feels like an original lacquer SBA, but it was sent back to Selmer for a fresh coat of lacquer at some point. It came to me with Selmer pads still in it, and the correct nitrocellulose lacquer from the 50’s like you would expect. I always say that if you’re going to save some money by buying a relacquered horn, it is these super clean factory relacquers that should be your first choice.

Selmer Super Balanced Action Tenor Saxophone 55024 Original Lacquer Fresh Overhaul

This is a beautiful, original lacquer Selmer Super Balanced Action tenor saxophone in excellent condition. Selmer SBA tenors have gotten really hard to find in the last year or two, and this is among the nicest I have seen in that time. It is priced very reasonably for what you get, based on all the other ones I have seen for sale recently. This is a late SBA with the more comfortable thumb hook that is a transitional feature shared by the early Mark VI tenor that came out around the same time that this horn was made. (Selmers often show a little overlap between models, and frequently have transitional features shared by overlapping models.)

The ‘late’ Selmer SBA tenors like this have gotten particularly hard to find, because they combine the warmer, more delicate SBA tone with the best bell key tuning. This one tunes great, and is quite free blowing, warm, and moderately focused, with a lyrical core tone. Tone is tricky to describe, and obviously the horn sounds completely different depending upon which mouthpiece you use etc. But it plays just how I would hope a great Super Balanced Action tenor would play. You may notice, this has the ‘euro’ engraving style done on Selmer Super Balanced Action tenors that were lacquered and engraved in France.

The overhaul is recently done in California by Manny Gavrilov at the Horn Connection. Manny’s work feels quite good, with a dry, snappy pad feel. Spring tension is just right. The horn resonates beautifully, and the pads are sealed (hence the red color) to protect against moisture and to make the overhaul last forever. I’ve played horns with red sealed pads that had 25 year old overhauls that were still going strong. It really does a good job of sealing the horn up like a drum, and it just feels like normal medium firm leather pads. The resonators are domed metal and are correct style for a late SBA like this. They look like Selmer Tone-x resonators, and are probably the original resos reused on the new pads. This horn has been played and loved, so it’s not mint condition, obviously. But the wear is ‘honest’ wear from use, not from a bunch of past repairs. I see nothing resoldered at all, and maybe some minor bow dents were removed a long time ago, leaving only very slight evidence of anything having been done. You’ve got a custom octave key thumb rest cover installed, but it’s easily removable, and the original octave thumb rest is under there and looks fine.

This comes with its beautiful original tan leather Chesterfield case from Selmer with the latch style opening, which is more durable than the zippered Chesterfield. I like the way the leather binding forms one continuous circuit around the case exterior. Just the case is worth some $$! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I’m happy to help. If you’ve been looking for a great vintage Selmer with some warmth, power and projection, that is in top playing condition, original lacquer and priced reasonably for an original SBA, then here you go. This one is hard to beat.

Pair with our new GS SLANT tenor mouthpiece for a classic mainstream jazz tone.

Selmer Super Balanced Action Tenor Saxophone SBA 1954 Original Lac

Update: Just overhauled by Matt Stohrer and new photos coming soon. Original resonators reused on the new pads, and it plays better than new.

This is as close to a new Selmer Super Balanced Action tenor saxophone as you are likely to find. This thing is amazing. it comes with all original pads, and the original metal Tonex resonators are all still present on the original pads from 1953. The excellent original Selmer factory setup feels great under the fingers. If you are going to play this seriously, you will probably want to get either all new pads (reuse the original resonators) or at least replace some pads. But it does still play surprisingly well on the current 66 year old pads. It has a sweet, warm voice with plenty of power. A bit more spread and warm than a typical 50’s Mark VI would be. Darker than any modern Selmer, but with a nice focused lyrical core to the tone. There’s that delicate thread in the center of the sound that you can grab onto with vintage Selmers that makes them especially pleasant to listen to.

There are no resolders, no dents, no dings. No neck damage, bell flare and bow are perfect. The original neck has the matching serial number to the body. The only past repair is a small dent removed on the bow, and a few really small dings removed from the back of the body tube that are hard to see. It looks very good now. I tried to make the removed dent look as bad as possible in the photos, but it looks quite a bit better in person. After watching the market pretty closely for the past ten years, I can say with confidence that this is one of the nicest SBA tenors that still exists. If you want to buy it and also get it overhauled by Matt Stohrer as part of a deal, I have an overhaul spot reserved with Matt. His work is among the best I have seen, and he is pretty serious about saxophone repair.

So that’s what you get. A super nice orignial lacquer SBA tenor with original pads from one of the most desirable years in excellent condition. This horn has great intonation and great ergonomics. It is maxed out on beauty with the dark honey original lacquer. It comes with the gorgeous original Chesterfield case. You really can’t beat this SBA tenor saxophone if you want something that does it all. Super Balanced Action tenor saxophones are going up, and this is one of the best in the world.

This is a nice, original silver plated, later SBA Tenor SN# 53xxx. It is A-MAZ-ING, and will not disappoint even the most spoiled/picky saxophone collector/pro player. Seriously – I avoid saying that every horn on the site is a “Monster” or a “Killer” specifically so that when the really unbelievable horn comes along, I can use those words and they actually mean something. You are getting the classic SBA sound – dark, dense, powerful, somewhat spread with a punchy edge to it; great response, super easy low notes, unbeatable feel under the fingers. The works.

Selmer Super Sax Baritone Unique Original Permagold Finish 18xxx

This is a beautiful Selmer Super Sax Baritone saxophone. It is one-of-a-kind according to Selmer’s factory record book. It is the only perma-gold plated Super baritone like this that exists. Permagold is a unique finish that is gold-colored dichromate and that does not tarnish.

If you love Selmer baritones, and you want something cool and vintage to play around on, this would be the thing. I have a very similar Radio Improved baritone myself that I play as my main bari, and I just don’t think you can beat it for tone or response. This horn has medium-aged pads,  not freshly overhauled. But someone took really good care of it, because the overhaul feels very good, and the pads are sealing well, so you can play it easily. This horn plays amazingly when I use the neck from my Radio Improved baritone (1100 serial numbers later, so pretty close.) So I just got a neck custom made for this horn that matches my beloved Radio Improved neck but tunes on this horn. This baritone now a phenomenal player. The tone is centered and warm, rich and medium dark

It comes with a ProTec Contoured bari case, but if you want the high-end BAM baritone case, I will include one for an extra $600. Given the coolness of this horn, and the extreme rarity factor, the price is quite good I think. I certainly had to pay a lot for this myself, and I’m not making much.

Just overhauled. Photos are before the overhaul. It looks a bit nicer now, and plays ridiculously well. It’s like the warmth and lyrical core of a Selmer Balanced Action, but with the wideness and power of a Conn 6M added in. Keywork is the older style, of course, so you can’t be too fussy about that. We just did a GS NY demo video quick preview with this exact alto, so you can hear it in action on an extremely precise copy of my favorite Meyer Bros NY alto piece in this demo clip. You can tell Tyler is a tenor player from the way he really pushes the horn with tons of air, but it doesn’t back down!

Selmer Super Sax Cigar Cutter Alto Saxophone Original Gold Plate Fresh Overhaul! 17618

Is this the best playing alto on the website right now? It might be!

Original gold plated vintage Selmers are hard to find. Gold plated Super Sax Selmers are even harder! If you want a Selmer that has some of the the wideness and darker tone of a Conn, this is the horn for you! This beautiful example still has the ‘cigar cutting’ octave mechanism that goes away shortly after this serial number. The original gold is in great shape, with some wear from use. This horn just got a top quality overhaul done by J&H Winds in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Jimmy Jensen and Simon Harding’s shop there is doing a fantastic job on vintage saxophone restorations, and gets my full endorsement! This thing feels better than new under the fingers. It has Italian Pisoni pads that were specially ordered thicknesses to fit the deeper pad cups. And the resonators are Aaron Barnard’s reusable slightly domed brass ones that are my favorite on lots of types of vintage saxophone. This sax got the full treatment, and now it is SO fun to play. It is super alive – vibrates like crazy under the fingers. The intonation is quite good with my GS New York alto mouthpiece, so you are fine with either a large or a medium chamber on this alto. The tone is so velvety and rich – dark, smooth, complex, and WIDE. If you want to fill a room, this is the horn for you. The gold is also gorgeous. The only drawback is the ergonomics. It’s not modern. I actually like the direct action that closes the left hand bell keys– it’s nice and snappy and easy. The downside is just if you need to get around a lot of low notes really quickly, and you don’t have good pinky finger dexterity. To me the tone makes it totally worth it. And how many blazing passages in the extreme low register do you realistically play? Probably not that many. So this is the total package of rarity, beauty, top shelf overhaul, and tone.

Wow, this is a rare and beautiful American-engraved Selmer Cigar Cutter (Selmer Super Sax SSS) Tenor  from 1933. It has a 17xxx serial number, which puts it solidly in the Super Sax range. This is basically a ‘cigar cutter’ tenor without the cigar cutting octave mechanism. That octave mechanism is almost exclusively found on altos, and only on a few tenors. The main cool things about this horn are 1. It has much more extensive American engraving than you almost ever see on an early Selmer and 2. It is very hard to find a 17k or 18k serial Selmer Super tenor, and more common to find 13k-15k from what I have seen. These later ones are a real sweet spot for early Selmer tone. Coleman Hawkins played a Super much like this, and it has that big, warm, velvety soft tone that you want.

Early Selmer tenors combine great keywork and Selmer build quality with a bigger, warmer, more spread tone to make a combination that is very hard to beat. And this is the most beautiful one that I have ever seen. It’s a 10/10 in basically every way. This is the **original** silver plate from 1931-32! It is almost 100% present, and this horn just had an $1100 full overhaul done by Saxquest last year with Pisoni pads and TenorMadness domed metal resonators. It’s almost unbelievably nice. And it plays HUGE, with that full, spread, medium dark tone that absolutely no modern tenors can approach. The keywork is also remarkably easy to get around on. It would be hard to find a nicer example of an early Selmer. Get it before it’s gone! I don’t think there will be another one like this for a while.

Selmer Supreme Alto Dark Lacquer Like New Plus Thorough Setup

Selmer Supreme alto that is in like new condition, but I spent a lot of money on setup on it, fixing some not-so-well-done factory setup. It needed a BIG setup, to fix pad seating problems from the factory, and to clean up some messy corks, check some mechanical things, and add more adhesive behind many of the pads. Now, it’s good to go for the long-haul, and it plays extremely well! I’m amazed at the even scale – middle C to octave D is extremely even, for example. The intonation is excellent as well – much better than a Series II for me (using a Meyer style mouthpiece). You’ll love how it plays, but this is much better than buying a new one without any work done. This is the second Supreme I’ve had in brand new, and both of them needed quite a bit of work to play their best.

One more of these is available now by request though. One month old Selmer Supreme alto in dark lacquer finish. This got a GetASax new horn checkup and is playing REALLY well. I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised with the tone quality and intonation of the Supreme. It’s better than a Series II in both categories. The engraving looks great too. I was prepared not to like it, and it won me over. This one has been demoed out of the case a few times, and has maybe 4 hours play time on it since new, total. These are back ordered over a year in most places, and the dark lacquer version is the most back-ordered of all, as it’s the best looking one. It comes with the Selmer mouthpiece and the new Supreme case made by BAM France that is also pretty slick.

This one is brand new, plus it has received the GetASax ultra-picky pre-sale setup which costs me $600 to have done. It’s almost a mini-overhaul, and it takes the horn from decent to amazing. It’s essential to do, if you really want to experience the Supreme at its full potential. You also get the setup entirely for free, as I don’t add it to the price. You won’t find a better playing Supreme tenor. This will not last long.
